01/10/07: "Mirror mirror on the wall..."

Contemplate the plight of the people in Burma for one moment in your busy day. We’ve known the facts for some time about this brutally manipulative and controlling military regime which is systematically starving people whilst they plunder the country's natural resources lining their own pockets. EVERY situation like this on the world stage holds up a mirror to ourselves for everything is interrelated. To me the crisis parodies the situation we all find ourselves in... the exploitation of the many for the benefit of a super rich few. If like me you make this connection - that Burma is holding up a mirror to us all - what might we see in the mirror?....

In my truth we’ve been conditioned into living a certain way. Billions of dollars are poured daily into “marketing” - the politically acceptable term for “developing conditioned behaviour patterns” - in other words “systematic brainwashing”. It is a system held in place ostensibly for the benefit of the many, but in truth only really serves the super rich few.

Industrial consumerism established in the early 20th Century thrives on the precept that the more we consume the richer we get. If we don’t have the money right now, then we’ll borrow it with “0% finance” and the like. So the world is currently financed by debt. If there’s a credit crunch, we simply borrow more, produce more and sell our way out of the crisis.

But the crunch will come sooner or later - it is unavoidable. Why so? Every system in the universe has to find energetic balance because it all came from nothing. In other words if +1 arises then -1 is created simultaneously. A simple way of saying this is that we can only expend energy through our actions if we’ve first received the requisite amount of energy. So I need energy to live therefore (in this society) I go to work, earn money and buy food. The trouble is that our system is so unsustainable that for every joule of energy we produce as food, we expend 10 joules to produce it!

This is because instead of simply growing our food in our back gardens, we ship it millions of miles, process it, package it and then ship it back to where people can buy it. So what happens to the other 9 joules of energy? Most of it gets squandered as global warming but very significantly the rest ends up as corporate profit and shareholders dividend - this is the driver of the machine.

Our society is indeed an anomaly where we are expending 10 times more energy to live than we have access to. But it is an anomaly that will not last indefinitely - it simply can’t because it defies a much greater power than itself - it defies the entirety of the universe because we are all one and interconnected. Sooner or later the anomaly will be “ironed out”. There is no choice in it. To me, that's why there is growing unrest across our planet - the anomaly is beginning to iron itself out as our planetary system ascends to a more energetically harmonious place.

So what can we do about it? Well speaking through this injust “matrix” that we live in is the guiding hand of higher consciousness. It speaks to us through our direct inner knowing when we get into the higher chakras. It flows into the third eye (if we choose to activate it) and then can be felt in the heart. If we have trouble at first experiencing this, asking ourselves the following questions can help...

  • "what is this situation revealing to me now?"
  • "How am I being in relationship to it?"
  • "Why have I lost inner peace?"
  • "What attachment and therefore distortion is it inviting me to release?"
  • "What aspect of divine higher beingness am I being invited to attune to?"

In approaching all situations in this way, I’ve found there is a place you can come to where we actually realise within the core of our being our at-one-ment with all - both the “good” and the “bad”. Then there is no judgment of it either and therefore no identification. With practice, application and perseverance, approaching ALL situations in this way, strips away the tightness inside like peeling off layers of an onion. Indeed if we keep doing it, the process becomes automatic and seamless. When we’ve stripped away ALL illusionary identity, then we don’t even have to decide what to be - authentic being simply arises from within and we attune to that. This is what “enlightenment” is.

If we have courage and faith in ourselves - our authentic selves - then we will be guided to exactly the right circumstances for our own higher benefit - the path of the soul. In so doing we become as one with the universe once more and our example encourages more of those prepared to listen to tune in themselves. Then we can be sure that whatever chaos might be just around the corner, we WILL be looked after.

Thank goodness for the mirror!
