05/06/10: "The Prayer of Jesus in Aramaic"

The power of the spoken word
I've long struggled with the tongue of my current incarnation 'English'. So many times I feel my soul's expression becoming tangled with the limitations of the spoken word. My inner knowing has always drawn me to something far beyond words could ever describe. With a natural affinity for 'de-coding' things, I've felt drawn to certain languages over the years, especially ancient ones...

Upon hearing them, it is as if they are encoded with the secrets of the universe and the space between the words is filled with a divine infusion of light. They seem to be a much more literal expression of my soul. Aramaic is one such language.

I have always been fascinated with the Aramaic version of the 'Lord's Prayer'. Aramaic was the native tongue of Jesus. The original version seems a world apart from the 'traditionally' translated version, which seems so widely removed from the original expression!

Here is the most beautiful translation I know of (although bear in mind as with all things expressed - it is only a translation):

THE ARAMAIC PRAYER OF JESUS ('The Lord's Prayer')
(as translated from Aramaic by Saadi Neil Douglas-Klotz of the Sufi Order of the West)

O, Birther of the Cosmos, focus your light within us -- make it useful
Create your reign of unity now
Your one desire then acts with ours,
      As in all light,
      So in all forms,
Grant us what we need each day in bread and insight:
Loose the cords of mistakes binding us,
As we release the strands we hold of other's guilt.
Don't let surface things delude us,
But free us from what holds us back.
From you is born all ruling will,
The power and the life to do,
      The song that beautifies all,
From age to age it renews.
I affirm this with my whole being.

Enjoy this beautiful video... It is one of the most gentle versions and yet soul stirring songs of the Prayer of Jesus that I have found:

beautiful.

it seems a very lyrical language - somehow both complex and simple at the same time.

in the prayer and through the video I feel there's the essence of a greater truth there resting beyond the words.

thankyou

As someone brought up saying the Lord's Prayer, I can't help wonder what a difference it might have made if I had been taught this lovely translation.
Wonderful words and a wonderful video, the singing really touched my heart. Thank you so much for sharing them.

With love, Lesley xx

The message

Beautiful sharing.Once again it reminds me -it is how the message is delivered.

Re: The message

Teresa,

Wow! How ironic! I am currenlty creating a new website to share my own offerings and my FIRST article on it is something I wrote with the title "The Message"! You can not possibly know how your one short sentence speaks so loudly. It's a powerful affirmation. Very synchronistic for me to read find your post specifically within this Aramaic thread. We are always answered. I just wanted to thank you for something that you have no idea you did Innocent

with Love
