09/10/09: 'Being successful'...

What does success mean to you?
I imagine that this question would generate as many different answers as there are shades of colour on a bright summers day! To me, success means whether I have in any given moment followed the calling of my heart. If I can rest my head upon my pillow each night, knowing that I have done my very best to be authentic, then I fared very well. Within my ability, have I been of divine service to myself and as a result to those within my world? If so, I feel that no matter what is going on, I am being successful in my world...

So what does success mean to you? I found these insightful perspectives on success...

Viktor Frankl was an Auschwitz survivor, and says success is not to chase... instead allow it to unfold as a by-product of following your inner guidance and intuition...

"Don't aim at success -- the more you aim at it and make it a target, the more you are going to miss it. For success, like happiness, cannot be pursued; it must ensue, and it only does so as the unintended side effect of one's personal dedication to a cause greater than oneself or as the by-product of one's surrender to a person other than oneself. Happiness must happen, and the same holds for success: you have to let it happen by not caring about it. I want you to listen to what your conscience commands you to do and go on to carry it out to the best of your knowledge. Then you will live to see that in the long-run -- in the long-run, I say! -- success will follow you precisely because you had forgotten to think about it."

Enlightenment is found through that which is beyond the material world, through that which is in the depths of our heart...

"The ideals which have lighted me on my way and time after time given me new courage to face life cheerfully, have been Truth, Goodness, and Beauty. . . The ordinary objects of human endeavour -- property, outward success, luxury -- have always seemed to me contemptible."
    Albert Einstein

Only do that which stirs your soul...

"Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success. If you love what you are doing, you will be successful."
    Albert Schweitzer

To remember the enormous value in 'the little ordinary moments' that often offer our greatest spiritual growth...

"I long to accomplish a great and noble tasks, but it is my chief duty to accomplish humble tasks as though they were great and noble. The world is moved along, not only by the mighty shoves of its heroes, but also by the aggregate of the tiny pushes of each honest worker."
    Helen Keller

Heaven is within - let is shine...

"Your living is determined not so much by what life brings to you as by the attitude you bring to life; not so much by what happens to you as by the way your mind looks at what happens.
    Kahlil Gibran

True success is not a measurable

Love the post Trin - thanks so much for the inspiration Smile
I think it so accurately defines what success really is.

Prior to my Awakening, I guess you could say my life was driven by the desire for success and indeed I had no small measure of it. I achieved what you might call 'material success' in sport, at university, in the military and business. Yet I was certainly not content and rarely happy.

Like many in the world today, I was what you could call 'goal-orientated'. It meant that just as soon as I achieved something, it would soon become insufficient and I'd quickly switch attention to something else.

Although on the outside, to many it would have looked like I was successful (big house, flash car, own business etc etc), in actual truth I was fighting clinical depression. It's only after I woke up and let go of the need to achieve things that I discovered inner peace and contentment.

But that wasn't by any means the end of the story. After a while of basking in the infinite liberation of pure presence, some deep inner yearning arose within me once more. This time however, it was the authentic yearning of my soul and in particular one aspect of it.

Our soul's are each a blend of seven characteristics (see...The Seven Rays of Divine Influence) one of which is what we may call the 'Ray 1 Warrior Energy'. This is the authentic deep inner yearning of purpose. Purpose in particular to bring in light, to break down the status quo and help find a higher harmony. The unswerving passion to help another out of their darkness.

If the Ray 1 arises in you so strongly (as it does in me), to deny this is to deny who you are and you're very purpose for being. We must let it flow. Yet there is a delicate balance to achieve. Allowing that deep inner yearning to be expressed, yet not needing to measure it by the outcome.

It reminds me of one of the earlier workshops I ran in Scotland. Five people had booked on the course but close to the date, 4 pulled out! I was left with flying all the way up to Scotland to work with one person. Yet I still felt the pull to go, so I did.

I remember before the second day of the course, that even though things were going wonderfully, still feeling a little despondent. "Why couldn't there be more people to experience this wonderful Openhand energy?" I asked of the universe.

In answer to my question, I felt the pull to go for a walk along the river through the centre of Edinburgh. In quick succession I saw three herons. It could have been the same one but it matters not, the heron got my attention. At the third encounter, I felt a strong inner compulsion to watch it. It was stood in the river, stock still, almost like a marble statue. Then suddenly, it snapped downwards, through the water catching a small fish before flying off. I had my answer! Do not judge success by the number. In this 'game' of enlightenment, one fish at a time will do!

It turned out to be one of the most powerful workshops I've ever done and the lady concerned was so appreciate, she made a significant donation which easily covered all my costs. She also went on to become a very treasured and supportive Openhander indeed.

The incident and your posting reminded me so much of a wonderful clip from that amazing film "Peaceful Warrior". It's about following your true passion in life whatever the circumstances are. It's not about measuring, but giving yourself completely to your joy. Only this will bring true and lasting "success".

Enjoy...

Thank you for the beautiful sharing Chris. I must admit that it touched my heart. It's warming to know that others in this world embrace measure success through the vibration of the heart in this way too!

The clip from Dan Millman's Peaceful Warrior is profound! Awesome. Thank you for sharing.

Every brush stroke creates the masterpiece

As I contemplated this wonderful posting on success, another higher realisation dropped into my mind.

So often I hear from Lightworkers that sometimes our efforts may seem a little pointless faced with the rising tide of injustice that seems to be strengthening just as the light is..."What is the point if 'success' seems beyond our grasp and we can do so little?"

I always feel compelled to say "take heart, we're flowing with the river of truth and even if the majority seem not to notice, we are together having a very powerful impact indeed."

I know that sometimes it's hard to see how we're effecting the situation with our consciousness but indeed we are. Even if it's dealing with the apparently small things in life, we're continually sending out vibrations that other awakening people can pick up on.

Together we're creating a divine masterpiece which requires every single brush stroke to make it complete. So let's keep on painting!

Much love

Chris

Critical mass - comment to Every brush stroke creates the master

According to chemistry, Kabbalah and my personal observations, things change (react, move) when critical mass (energy) is attained..

So it's not a question about to do or not to do, and also I don't think I personally could do anything else at the moment, but what I'm doing right now..

I think this is the very essense of being true to myself - to do whatever is needed to be done without paying attention to what others say, or whether I see clear results of my efforts or I get any acknowledgement..

And obviously the thoughts are shifting..(for example scientific discoveries by two different people almost at the same period, or same ideas in different books from different people, different mentality, different nations...

So combine the two and the result is keep doing what you feel right, your thoughts will shift, and pass to others and then, when the critical mass will be attained, you'll get the change (reaction).

But I think that it's a small mistake to want to change the world in general.. I believe, that I should focus on myself, on my contribution, my will, my change...and to tell about my personal experiences and thoughts in articles like this one, so that all the info is available for whoever is interested and all the rest is "Nature's job", it will "change the world much more effectively then my "tiny" but necessary pushes Smile

Or in short, don't you worry about the whole anthill, just carry your straw..and if I do it the best way I can - for me it's "GREAT SUCCESS"!!!

Wonderful reminder!

Such wise words Chris and Someone!
I love the postings. Yes indeed, how invaluable are those single brush strokes and that piece of straw!

Surrender to the Earth

Don't we often forget to surrender to the moment? Just been watching the North American Indian clip. So true we are all connected, one big family a dverse one where every single living entity is so valuable to the whole.
My uncle once said of our family "if one bruises, we all bruise" and that is what happens world wise. We all need to recognise this and pass the message on ........

Your Openhand newsletter always comes when i need it most. thank you Chris and Trinity one day you may see me again!!!Love and light Jude
