For a number of years I have spent the cold bite of the English winter in Hawaii. At the time it provided a welcome break as well as much needed inspiration. I have to say I became a little attached to the sunshine and outstanding beauty (hardly surprising really!) after the contrast of our cold damp winters...

Its over three years since my last visit. I could have easily gone if I’d chosen to yet divine guidance pulled me to stay here instead. I have come to know over the course of my journey that mind led logic can never suplant what higher guiding consciousness has in store.

Yesterday early in the morning as my hands were thawing out from scraping the ice of the car windscreen, I drove into the Somerset countryside. Of all things my senses were mysteriously bombarded with sounds, sights and scents of Hawaii! It felt as if I’d be teleported back to the lush rain forest, the white beaches, volcano lava inspired sculptures, and driveways lined with guava trees and coconut palms. The memories flowed back of some of the most beautiful and profound experiences I’ve encountered during my life, when I’d trek through the bamboo forests to bathe in the crystal clear rock pools, shower under the waterfalls and dry out on the hot rocks baking from the golden morning sunshine.

I could have easily slipped into a heartfelt longing to reunite with my long lost love “Hawaii”... At one point it had been the ‘be all and end all' for me.

Yet as I experienced this intense bombardment to my senses, I realised that the feelings were uncannily like those that I encountered during states of meditation where I'd experienced heightened ecstasy. I watched the full blown experience of heaven on earth unfold, noticing something rather profound and blissful. It dawned on me that I had ‘Hawaii’ inside of myself! She’d never left my heart. Heaven is within and we need look no further than the depths of our own soul for it.

Nothing that we truly love ever leaves us. Love is beyond form, beyond definition; it stirs something in the depths of our soul that is eternal. We do indeed hold the depths of the universe within our being.

Missing something (or someone) invites us to peel back ever deeper layers to find that which we thought was outside of ourselves. I feel so blessed by this realisation and felt to share it here so that it may inspire others to do the same.
