17/03/08: "Connecting to the etheric whilst grounded..."

Do you ever find yourself 'drifting off'?
I am by nature somewhat 'ethereal', in other words, very comfortable in ‘higher realms’. It seems that I only need to close my eyes to transcend the limitations of the third dimension. At times I need not even go so far as to close my eyes. Whilst it might sound great it presented a lot of challenges in the early days. Something I learned early on (the hard way!) was the importance of being grounded...

The earth connection
Without being earthed, the experiences would short circuit my mind sending me into a tail spin, often taking hours (or even days!) to recover from. The truth is that when I first started having higher dimensional experiences I was ungrounded to the point where I didn't want to return to my body. When I did, I would seem to 'crash land' without a frame of reference to relate to the world. I realise now I had entirely neglected to maintain my connection to the earth. The answer was simple... to ground myself and constantly reaffirm that connection until it became second nature. It has been an ongoing process.

The wonderful irony is that despite my inclination towards the astral planes, Mother Earth was (and is) my greatest inspiration. With the unconditional love of a true Mother she was constantly by my side, guiding me through this incarnation.

She patiently waited for me to realise that my tendency to the higher vibrations was given to be expressed (as others) through the grounded delights of human form. With various loving nudges it slowly began to dawn on me that without infusing my experience of higher consciousness with an earth connection, the experiences were just really blowing around like bubbles in the wind; which is all very well, but it didn't really serve a purpose. They often left me feeling scatty and incoherent with the most powerful of experiences drifting aimlessly - not going anywhere in particular. I realised that my efforts to ‘bring in the divine’ were fruitless unless I gave it a firm base to land.

I've since discovered many techniques for grounding one's energy. The most effective are often the most simple. Walking in nature is clearly a powerful one as well as anything that helps us feel our bodies (i.e dancing, singing). I find that being bare foot instantly rekindles my affinity with the earth. Here's a very easy method if you are meditating and have a tendency to 'drift off':

Bring your awareness to your connection with Mother Earth.

Feel your energetic ‘roots’ sink into the Earth, through your feet (if standing) or base chakra (if seated).

When you feel connected allow her energy to flow up through your base and infuse grounded earthly energies throughout your being.

You may naturally experience this as a flowing green infusion. It may help to visualise green.

Allow energies of higher consciousness to infuse your being as appropriate. You may experience this as an inflow of white light from above.

Allow the heavenly and earthly energies to dance together.

It may be that something else works for you. I would invite you to explore what that may be.
