21/04/09: "Absolute authentic reality..."
Don't deny the truth, but don't fear it either
Here at Openhand we often feel like tightrope walkers. We feel it is our calling to speak the truth about what we observe happening in the world as we see it (credit crunch, peak oil, resource rarification etc etc)...and yet of course some may say this is to risk spreading fear. In our truth, there is nothing to fear from the truth. The key is to look at every day events with absolute clarity beyond the distorting influence of a desired need for an outcome. We can be sure of one thing, the "Is" has imagined it a great deal more perfect than we have...
See the obstacles but follow the path between them
When I was learning to walk the path, it quickly became clear to me that we create our reality by what we're being within. As with other awakening people, that was followed by a misaligned wish to try to shape reality according to mind-led desires - even if I thought they were in the greater good.
I soon realised that every part of life is interconnected like some infinite rubics cube and I couldn't possibly know how my intentions might effect the whole. However, if I surrendered to the natural flow of the Universe, I quickly began to read a higher story which seemed to be shaping events for the magnificent benevolence of all life not just my own.
It was with this realisation that many of my fears about the way humanity seems to be heading quickly began to subside. However, I felt I was still in need of greater clarification on how to steer a path through life - noticing the obstacles but not becoming identified with them.
Benevolent Presence
So it was with this question in my consciousness that one New Year's Day I found myself cycling down a mountainside with a good friend. She was much more proficient and adept than me, swirling effortlessly past twists and turns, gliding down the mountainside seemingly on the wings of angels.
After hearing me fall off for the umpteenth time, she came back to help and graced me with some good advice..."notice the boulders sure, but then follow the path between them". As simple and obvious as it may seem, the advice hit me like a bolt from the blue. I knew this was not just about mountain biking, but it was the answer to the question I'd been holding about how to walk the path.
So I took her advice and quickly found myself bobbing and weaving without further difficulty just as she had done. I felt overjoyed, light, euphoric even. As I contemplated the incident afterwards, several realisations quickly dawned....
- to deny the obstacles is to deny the truth
- without the obstacles, you're likely to ride off the mountain side
- the path is formed from the obstacles
- to walk the path is to focus on the path between the obstacles
Since then, I've always been encouraged to notice the truth, not to try to create some new, more desirable reality (to cycle off the mountain), but then not to fear the truth either (I know in my heart we are eternal). It's when we're truly informed about the way things really are that we can steer a course through the storm.
We're not alone
And I've always been caused to remember..."we are not alone". We are being aided and assisted by a miraculous benevolent consciousness. If ever an obstacle seems insurmountable, all we have to do is still our emotions and our thoughts, go deep into the heart, ask for the answer and watch what happens next without needing any particular outcome.
As I write this, I'm reminded of that wonderful REM song "we're not alone" and I'm given to share it with you here...
So wherever you are, whatever circumstance you find yourself in, even if you sometimes feel you're walking a tightrope, you are most definitely not alone!

Absolute Authentic Reality - loved the post
Hi Chris - I've just been sitting watching a stream and down the stream came
a Rugby Ball - it weaved around the rocks and just went on it's way.
Wondered if the rocks were some of my blocks !!! Been removing a lot of them
lately - but it didn't really matter - what matters is the going - that if we
are willing to change the universe will do the rest.
I'm fortunate to be amongst a lot of people at the moment who recognise the
conditioning of the Matrix and are willing to accept a new program.
I've come to see my small self as a BAD ROBOT - got this from the TV series
Lost - To be able to laugh at yourself is very important in my opinion - what
is this little self that does the thinking - a conditioned part of ourselves
that took on the only program it was given.
But as we come to this AWARENESS are we willing TO TAKE THE BLUE PILL OR THE
RED PILL - HOHO
Lots of Love to
Both you Chris , Trin and Ocean
And of course all the Openhanders
Who have been wonderful teachers and friends on my journey
Rugby balls!
Hi Ann,
Great to see you on the forum, loved your post, what a great synchronicity. Thought you might like to hear about my rugby ball synchronicity. Quite some time ago just after I'd been on an Openhand weekend, I drove to the beach, parked up and there right in front of me was a rugby ball. I was blown away, just a couple of days before, Chris had been using the metaphor of catching the authentic energy to act like a rugby ball, not running too early before it had been properly passed to you etc. I was pretty dumbfounded it was such a strong synchronicity, and I had to acknowledge that I felt fear, wondering what the energy or ball might represent, and would it be too overwhelming? Would it be too big a load for me? By now I was sitting sideways, with the car door open and my feet out on the ground, too afraid to go and pick the ball up. As I sat there feeling my smallness and my fear, I heard a powerful "whoom, whoom, whoom" noise and looked up to see a chinook helicopter flying over (the sort built to carry heavy loads, they often have big nets hanging down beneath them). As I watched, it conveyed a "no problem" feeling. Then I looked slightly left and a huge flock of swans was heading straight for me, with their wings held wide in glide position and their feet stretched out in front of them, coming into land (more than thirty of them!). I can't tell you what an awesome sight it was, like a whole host of angels coming to my aid. Such beautiful reassurance that help is always on hand! The sheer magicalness of the scene when something like this unfolds is hard to convey. The exquisiteness as the limitless resources of the universe respond, in perfect fraction of a second timing, to the end of a personal thought is, in my experience, nothing short of miracles in action.
Your story really spoke to me and I had such a wonderful visual of your rugby ball (authentic energy) bobbing and weaving effortlessly down the stream, (your crystal clear path) I feel quite delighted for you.
Synchronistically, I had a bit of a move round in my flat last night, and my rugby ball seems to have come out of storage and taken centre stage, as it is currently "on the table". I notice I feel quite comfortable about that now.
Much love,
Lesley x
P.S. For me there's only one choice: the RED pill and show me the rabbit hole!
Taking the red pill
Thanks for sharings Lesley & Ann,
The rugby ball metaphor had messages for me too. In the past, i often found myself running empty handed ahead of the ball! But lets say life has slowed me down somewhat now. More often than not, I find I'm able to catch them.
As you know, being down the 'rabbit hole' is all about being in the flow. If we're truly following the pull, then we create wonderful synchronicities all around us.
I remember once talking to people on a course about "taking the red pill" (a line from the Matrix for the uninitiated) and sure enough, on the way home, someone finds a red pill on the seat next to them!
Don't you just love synchronicity!
