23/06/09: "Confronting the world - enlightenment through all things"...

Do you think that you can clear your mind by sitting constantly in silent meditation?
I was contemplating the awesome power of true meditation this morning as I went for an invigorating walk up and around Glastonbury Tor. I love meditation. The powerful peace within my being when I am purely present gives me meaning in my life. After a challenging journey thus far, I find that utterly priceless...

Whether sitting in stillness, engaging with a 'challenging' child/colleague or even just washing the dishes, every moment offers an opportunity to come from the place of pure presence. All circumstances are sent as a mirror to show us exactly where we are stuck. That is the nature of the world we create around ourselves.

It’s by truly living and confronting the world head on that we find the ultimate liberation. We are constantly tested and shaken apart until we can find our true centre of peace in every situation.

We could alternatively sit in a cave for 25 years and meditate achieving an amazingly high state of consciousness for the duration - apparent enlightenment - only to rejoin the world and find that we cannot function within the chaos. Periods of silence and seclusion can be invaluable ways of exploring our unfolding spirituality, yet Enlightenment is found through ALL things.

"Do you think that you can clear your mind by sitting constantly in silent meditation?
This makes your mind narrow, not clear.
Integral awareness is fluid and adaptable, present in all places and at all times.
    That is true meditation.
The Tao is clear and simple, and it doesn't avoid the world."
