26/03/2010: "Money to burn..."
Receiving in one hand, giving with the other
World economies are steaming into times of revolutionary change. People everywhere are realising that the old world order that has sustained us is breaking down. The paper in our pockets is worth increasingly less. It's already losing its value against essentials like food and energy. As governments everywhere hyper-inflate, that trend is likely to accelerate. So how are we to survive and prosper from the changes? Should we save our money? Should we build up our bank balances? Here at Openhand, we're advocating using those resources we have to prepare ourselves for the shift just over the horizon. In any case, receiving with one hand and giving with the other is entirely inline with the higher energetic order of things. We were never meant to scrimp, save and hoard..
The green back is ballooning
If you think we can rely on the banks for our future security think again! Society has built a totally interconnected global system. When Arabs in the Middle East start selling dollars, traders all around the world can follow suit at the click of a button. In 2008 when the credit crunch struck, few people realise we were just seconds away from a global melt down in the dollar and a number of other linked currencies. Right now the dollar - the global reserve currency - is already declining strongly. The entire financial system is unraveling.
That's because instead of reining in consumer borrowing and spending when the credit crunch hit, world government's response was simply to print more money and fuel the hyper inflationary growth. Just take a look at this graph below. It shows how many dollars have been in the US economy over the last fifty years. At the beginning of the credit crunch it was around £850 Billion. After just two short years it is now £2.1 Trillion!!! (please note, the image is borrowed from a financial article, the comment at the top is not mine!)...

What does this mean exactly? It means that the dollar is becoming increasingly worthless. That's why fuel and food prices are rising strongly. Am I the only one to be talking about this? Not at all. Although world governments want to keep the scale of the problem quiet, there are a number of prominent dessenters. There are many who see a strong tightening of credit as we move into 2012 (interesting timing!). This is what the president of the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas Thomas Hoenig had to say recently...
- "When I was named president of the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City in 1991, my 85-year old neighbor gave me a 500,000 mark German note. He had been in Germany during its hyperinflation, and told me that in 1921, the note would have bought a house. In 1923, it would not even buy a loaf of bread. He said, ‘I want you to have this note as a reminder. Your duty is to protect the value of the currency.' That note is framed and hanging in my office. Many say it could never happen here in the U.S. To them I say, if German hyperinflation seems an unrealistic example from the distant past, then let's come forward in time. Many have noted that in the 1960s, the Federal Reserve's willingness to finance spending on the Great Society and the Vietnam War contributed to a period of accelerating price increases. It helped set the stage for the Great Inflation of the 1970s."
Fractional Debt - the fundamental flaw
It's no surprise really, the world economy was always built on a fundamental flaw - the foundation of fractional debt. An ever increasing spiral of borrowing so as to keep on increasing the money supply so that people like you and I can pay back the interest through the spiraling consumption of commodities (like energy and food). This works only as long as the economy can keep on expanding. This is fine whilst oil supplies are plentiful, because it's oil from which the vast majority of our consumables are made - consumables which keep the money wheel spinning.
You see the issue is that society has ridden rough-shod over Gaia for far too long. I guess in the beginning, industry leaders felt they were offering a better life. That the planet could be shaped and moulded according to our hopes, ambitions and desires. When oil became plentiful, it seemed as if we could just keep on expanding without concern. This misconception has ballooned world populations from 900 million at the start of the Industrial Revolution to over 6 Billion now. And soon we'll be heading towards 9 Billion. The global population has ballooned in line with consumption, which has ballooned in line with our capacity to exploit oil.
The truth is of course, that we simply cannot keep expanding in this way. Oh sure we can print more money to bail out the banks and keep the economy afloat a while longer, but we simply cannot keep expanding the way we are. Oil is in increasingly short supply. As climate change intensifies, the amount of arable land and water available will denude our supply of food. That's why it won't matter how much money we print, Industrial Agriculture will put less and less bread on the table for the same money. We have to turn our backs on this senseless, ever-expanding system now and start using our resources wisely to invest in our personal sustainability.
Time to let go and trust
In my reality, I see these times as very positive for awakening people everywhere. These are the times that countless spiritual leaders, groups and writings have prophecised throughout the centuries. We're coming into times where the writing on the wall is going to get increasingly clear for all to see. In no uncertain terms, we're going to be invited to return to our roots, to the core of our eternal being.
We're coming into times where trust and faith are no longer just words banded around in Sunday sermons. They will become a way of living. Trusting in the divine flow of the universe. Trust that we don't have to hoard, scrimp, save and labour our entire lives just to collect that golden handshake. Trust that if we tune into our soul, we will be guided forwards through the difficulty and confusion. Trust that all our needs will be met. Trust that we'll be given exactly the right circumstances to be who we really are.
- "The key is to just let go; to summon the courage to push off from the bank (in more ways that one!) and take centre stream. It is to realise that to be in the flow we have to give not hoard. In the higher paradigm to which we are ascending, we don't build reservoirs - eddy currents - in the river of life. That simply retards the flow. It shows poverty of trust which is then mirrored by poverty in our outer world. It's about receiving with one hand X amount of energy and then giving X amount of energy with the other."
Openhand
I often share a joke with my fiends. I have a golden wallet. Every time it empties it just seems to fill up again all of its own accord! But you have to keep emptying it to see it fill. I should also add, it only fills to buy the EXACT resources I truly need!!!
Spend it wisely, but spend it!
So have you still got money to burn? Are you going to wait until it becomes increasingly worthless? Or is there something worthwhile that you could spend it on now?
Perhaps it's a journey, or a course to help you unfold something new within? (you could try our next course...Five Gateways). Perhaps there are some resources or tools that could benefit your new way of being? Could it be that you need to change location? Perhaps you need to buy some seeds for the garden or invest in that little allotment to grow your own food? Do you need to group your resources together with others and form a micro sustainable community? Or maybe you need to free up your resources entirely so you can become more mobile?
Money is simply energy, which we were always meant to let flow. When we try to scrimp and save, it simply creates poverty consciousness. When we can truly burn away the need to hang onto it however, the feeling is immensely liberating, we create a new sense of freedom and trust in our lives. Our inner fire is well and truly lit. I think the singer Richard Ashcroft has got the message...

Learning sustainable skills for coming times
A most informative article Chris! That puts it all into perspective!
I've just posted a blog entry about a week long eco skills workshop event. For those who are interested in learning skills for sustainable living it may well be of interest: http://www.openhandweb.org/eco_skills_celebration_event
Such skills could prove more valuable than anything money could buy now in coming times.

Urgent request of Chris's Golden Wallet (and everyone else's!)
Hi Chris and everyone,
It seems pertinent after reading your article to pass this on.
When you asked "is there something worthwhile that you could spend your money on now?" I immediately thought of this email I received yesterday:
It's from the Centre for Alternative Technology (CAT)in Mid Wales. It's an incredible place and runs courses on all aspects of sustainable living, attended by delegates from all over the world -
"Right now CAT is in a very serious situation and we need your help.
The Wales Institute for Sustainable Education (WISE) is CAT's most important project to date. Hundreds of thousands of people will benefit from the courses, conferences, education and events that will happen in WISE, and millions more will benefit from the practical solutions developed and taught within its walls.
However, WISE now finds itself in a precarious position.
Originally a £5million project, the building costs for WISE have risen because of a legal dispute between CAT and the main contractor, Frank Galliers Ltd. Last month, in the High Court, CAT was awarded over £500,000 in costs. However, Galliers have since gone into liquidation and we are unlikely to see a penny of the money owed to us.
This has left CAT in an incredibly difficult position. We need to raise £530,000 over the next few weeks to complete the WISE project. Please could you help us at this critical time?
You can find the full story and donate here.

Thank you in anticipation.

I hope you don't mind me passing that on.

The truth abouth the Golden Wallet
Hi Sally,
I did used to be a member of CAT many years ago and remember that they offer excellent courses and educational resources. A great cause.
There may however be a little misunderstanding about the true nature 'Golden Wallet' though
Chris wrote: But you have to keep emptying it to see it fill. I should also add, it only fills to buy the EXACT resources I truly need!!!
There is a destined pathway that defies all 'requests'.

Trinity
Please would you explain further?
Hi Trinity,
I don't think I understand how it is "A destined pathway that defies all requests." Please would you explain that a bit more?
If "it only fills to buy the exact resources I truly need", how do we "group our resources together with others and form a micro sustainable community"?
And taking that a step further, how might we collectively help CAT to support our evolution, if that's what we trust is the right thing to be doing today?
Love, Sally
Natural flow
Hi Sally,
Please allow me to step into the exchange since I coined the term 'golden wallet' in the first place
There is a natural flow through all events and circumstances. The real key in life is to understand this flow moment by moment and to align with it.
Why do I maintain this? Because all identity is false. We are pure presence - not 'this' nor 'that'. At our core, beyond all that we think we are, there is simply crystal clear clarity. The "Seer".
Out of this pure presence arises action - the spontaneous action of the soul. Until we are enlightened, the mind frequently wants to own the arising energy forming opinions around what it thinks should or shouldn't be happening based on conditioning and programming. It could even be compassionate programming for example.
But our destiny is to be free. To be liberated beyond all notion of responsibility - to be enlightened by all things. There is no need to request something of the universe. In so doing, what we're actually doing is setting up the condition of separation internally once more. We're confirming the false identity and moving out of alignment with who and what we truly are - pure presence.
So the soul will take us on a journey. It is a journey of enlightenment - there is simply NOTHING else going on in the universe.
It conspires to create all manner of circumstances with one underlying purpose - to see where we get attached. Where we get tight. Where we close down around something. The purpose is to let go of our attachment, process out our conditioning and thereby allow the soul to flow freely and act authentically in those circumstances that would have previously pushed our buttons - such as an apparently 'just and noble cause' for example.
When we are truly flowing as the soul and being absolutely authentic, then we find we receive exactly the resources we need to be that. If we need money it will be there. And conversely if the money is not there, then perhaps it is not meant to happen.
Does that help?
Chris
Acting authentically
Hi Chris,
Thanks for explaining. In the light of what you've said, I'd just like to clarify that my passing on this message was done in a spirit of openness and is unconditional on my part.
Sally
Genuine
I hear that Sally - I got the sense that your post was coming from a genuine and heart-felt place.
Much love
