31/03/08: "Terminal Chaos..."

Speaking through the weave
If you've tuned into the UK news at all in the last few days you may well have picked up on the chaos happening at Heathrow International Airport with the opening of its new Terminal 5. Travelers and holiday makers have been left in disarray with many flights canceled or departures continuing but without people's baggage! I dare say the environmentalists who've steadfastly resisted the opening of the new terminal are chuckling in their boots. Of course I'm sure we all have compassion for those 'inconvenienced' but once more is not "God" speaking to us through the weave of global events?...
I'm often reminded on my journey of awakening that its not the destination that counts but the getting there. Actually, more precisely, how we are being in the getting there. In other words, the destination is not really important at all, it serves merely as a motivation, a target to cause us to make choices. In making the choices we get to reveal who we really are. What attachments and distortions are we holding? Where do we get tight or angry? If so why? What higher truth can we reveal? What aspect of our magnificence can we display instead? What really matters to us?
I'm sure there was much frustration for the stranded travelers at Terminal 5, I even heard one person complaining about "God" as if it was "his" fault. I observe how frequently we blame "God" or something external to ourselves when things don't go the way we want them to. But of course we are all "God" and we co-create all of the moments, events and circumstances ourselves from what we are being within. We pre-organise events just like the terminal chaos to act as a mirror...
- "We complain to God when our foundations are shaking,
only to learn that it is God who is shaking them!"
Charles West
So what might the Terminal chaos be revealing to us? Well of course we have to question the sensibility of expanding the amount of air traffic in a world where (surely) we need to be radically decreasing it? We know that our way of life is unsustainable as it currently stands and yet we keep building more, consuming more and expanding more.
Those "inconvenienced travelers" might feel a little unhappy right now but how will they feel when their homes are flooded due to climate change (as happened in the UK last summer)? What happens if our supply of oil dwindles markedly before we have the chance to replace it with renewable fuels?
We each have a choice of course. The spending power that drives Industrial Consumerism and thereby global warming (at least in part) rests within our pockets - in how we chose to spend our money. Perhaps then we need to ditch some of that excess baggage and use events like this to go inwards and ask with profound self honesty, "who are we at the centre of all of this?" "Do we need to jet off somewhere else to find the truth?" "Is it really worth destroying the world for?"
We are indeed within the era of consequences where our collective choices are coming home to roost. But it's never too late to change - we simply have to summon the inner will to recognise the writing on the wall and follow the guidance we're being offered. Its not really that complicated to read the synchronicity - terminal chaos, excess baggage being left behind. The message just keep getting stronger!
In love and light
