"A need to know"

How much is there to know?
We all know the universe is of infinite proportions. All the while people are digging deeper and deeper uncovering fantastic new realisations and discoveries. In our world there is an unquenchable thirst for knowledge in science, business and our private lives. But does this quest for knowledge lead anywhere? Does it advance who and what we are?...

I’m sure many would say yes. They might point to the amazing advances in medical science, technology to make our lives easier or even space travel pushing back the boundaries of our existence. It also however seems to generate the ‘if only’ syndrome.

If only we knew how to cure cancer or heart disease, if only we could feed the world, if only we could travel at the speed of light. To me, this unquenchable desire for more stems from over identification with this illusionary universe. We don’t seem to realise the more we seek the more we create and therefore the more there is to find.

We are the absolute. That is the ‘zero sum total’ of all things - meaning if you add up all experiences throughout the universe both the negative and positive, the up and down, the left and right, you find all these experiences ‘cancel themselves out’. It is like when two waves meet with the peak of one wave fitting perfectly into the trough of another.

This zero sum total is inside and through everything that is manifest. It is what we are. We can discover this absolute truth in the simplest of things from an insect to a blade of grass. In my truth, every quest throughout the relative universe is the quest for this awesomely simple fact. What everyone is searching for is a state of being - ‘nirvana’ - as the Buddha termed it. In other words, awareness of the absolute all the time.

When we discover this absolute truth, we know it is the answer to every question, the end result of all equations of all pontifications. When there is none acceptance of it, our thoughts just keep expanding the illusionary universe creating an even deeper and deeper, never ending rabbit hole - Alice is permanently lost through the looking glass.

However, if we surrender the quest to know more, to answer more or to have more, what we find is first the release from struggle and internal efforting which brings a great sense of inner peace and acceptance.

Then something magical happens. We find that all the answers we need in life arise naturally for us. They appear through synchronicity all around us. So we end up knowing - IN THE MOMENT - exactly what we need to know. It is just like surfing - all we have to do is stand on the wave and enjoy the ride!

So peace be with you, because if you don’t know something, perhaps you don’t need to?

"The more I know the more I understand,
The more I understand the more I know I don’t know,
    The more I know I don’t know,
The more I know I don’t need to know."
