Archetypes - a doorway to the soul...
What are the qualities of your soul?
When we step onto the internal super highway of spiritual evolution, we begin to unravel the differences between personality influenced desires and those authentic inner yearnings of the soul. Every moment presents us an opportunity to shed those behaviours which no longer serve and instead allow the divine gifts of beingness to become us. This continual self realisation process is far from easy, sometimes it is exceptionally difficult to feel and know what is truly authentic - to be able to align with our profound truth. However, the Universe in its infinite benevolence has armed us which some powerful tools to unravel the inner coding. Sometimes we may take on a filter - an Archetype - that helps us better understand who and what we are...
Standing on the shoulders of giants
An Archetype is like a spiritual identity. It is an energy that may infuse our being for a given period of time and cause us to feel a particular way within our relationships with people and to the world in general. An Archetype is kind of like a colour filter on a projector. It will enhance particular colours in our 'soul ray harmonic' that we can see our true light more clearly.
A simple Archetype might be a patriarch or matriarch for example, in which, case paternal or maternal feelings will arise through our being and then colour many of our interactions. In so doing, we'll get to experience deep feelings of unconditional love, protectiveness, guidance, leadership and all those other great qualities that go with parenting.
In other cases, it could be that we take on a very powerful spiritual identity such as that of a highly evolved being. Consider for example the biblical story of Jesus. It contains many powerful characters; Mother Mary, Mary Magdalen, Judas, the disciples etc etc. The story is well known by many of course and if our soul is caused to relate to it in some way, it can invoke many deep inner feelings. On the one hand, it may catalyse feelings of unconditional love, unity, divine teamwork and on the other judgment, abandonment, betrayal. Imagine for example how Mary Magdalen might have felt following the crucifixion?
In my truth, before we incarnated into this lifetime we took on various "Sacred Contracts". In other words we formed predestined agreements with various of our soul family that we would incarnate in particular roles to co-create circumstances in our lives to inspire greater self realisation. I also believe that the so called "Ascended Masters" act through people by infusing their being with particular archetypal energy. I'm sure that's why for example, there are so many claims in spiritual circles that "so and so is the reincarnation of....". Rather than reincarnations, its highly like in most cases, people are simply taking on some of that energy in order to feel the full beauty of those spiritual identities.
What purpose does this serve?
In short, by taking on such powerful influences, the Archetype helps to shine a light on the true nature of our soul within day to day interactions. So for example, we may relate very powerfully to the Buddha, in which case we may experience a deep compassion for all sentient life forms and feel exceptionally surrendered and non-attached. Let us be clear though, we are not being the Buddha, we are simply invoking an authentic resonance of our own soul which might be closely aligned to that vibrational frequency.
Alternatively, at key times such as Easter, we might feel a powerful relationship to the identity of Christ - almost as if we are being that ourselves. So for example, we feel passionately moved to heal the sick, enlighten others or bring truth in darkness. It could be in just such occasions where we're being caused to exhibit such energy, that we may feel the essence of it in our own soul.
In my experience, the Archetype energy will stick around in our direct field of consciousness just as long as it takes for us to realise and unleash that frequency of energy within our own soul following which, the Archetype will tend to disappear.
Where an Archetype becomes a filter
Sometimes an Archetype works kind of like a filter - so for example, two people may come together as partners where by mutual agreement (at the higher level before we incarnated) a certain energy is infused between them causing them to relate to one another in a particular way. It could be for instance, that a partner will invoke all kinds of feelings that need to be processed out from past lives. In which case, the interaction is likely to stir up those feelings so we can dissolve any attachment to our past.
So for example, it may be that we for a time we feel we're with our perfect soul mate but then one day, when we've learned what we needed to, a filter is removed and the energy between the two changes - it can do so over night.
That's why its always paramount that we're totally honest with ourselves and our partners about how we feel in relationship. In so doing, it means each can fully embrace our ever changing, developing and evolving journeys. If the relationship needs to evolve into something else - a good friendship for example - better to acknowledge that just as soon as we can; it fosters faster self realisation and spares much of the heartache.
True Colours
So Archetypes can be a powerful blessing in our unfolding, helping us unveil key aspects of our being. But let's remember, the soul expresses itself ALWAYS uniquely in the moment - it doesn't conform to an identity. If we feel ourselves identifying with one particular energy all the time, its likely that we're creating an inner ego around that consciousness.
The journey of full unfolding is about creating an open space within, free from all identity and then allowing our True Colours to shine forth uniquely and spontaneously as the moment invites.
There's a great song called "True Colours" that often reminds me of this. We play it frequently during meditation on our courses...
So let your true colours always shine through.
They are beautiful, just like a rainbow!

A quick question
Thanks for this really illuminating perspective. When you say:
"In my experience, the Archetype energy will stick around in our direct field of consciousness just as long as it takes for us to realise and unleash that frequency of energy within our own soul following which, the Archetype will tend to disappear."
and also
"On the one hand, it may catalyse feelings of unconditional love, unity, divine teamwork and on the other judgment, abandonment, betrayal. Imagine for example how Mary Magdalen might have felt following the crucifixion?"
Do you mean those positive aspects of beingness like unconditional love, or maternal protectiveness will be unleashed, while feelings such as abandonment or betrayal are appearing as an invitation for forgiveness to arise, and within that a letting go of karma?
I've just realised that in writing this, it has facilitated me dropping down another layer into a previous experience I have had, and a deeper realisation and letting go to happen. I think I've answered myself!
THANKS!
Attuning to the soul's 'radio station'
Well that's what tends to happen when we're in the flow - just as soon as a question is asked, the answer spontaneously arises!
The more we travel along the path of unfolding, the more we realise we actually don't necessarily need to be able to mentally process what we're being. Attunement to authentic beingness does not happen by thinking "oh, this is what's arising now so that's what I need to be". It becomes sponatenous. It's kind of like the automatic tuner on your car radio scanning the airwaves - when it feels a frequency node (a spike in energy), the system simply aligns with that. The same applies for us; the more we get the mind out of the way, the more we naturally align with internal arising frequencies. Then if the 'music sounds good', we just keep right on playing!
Of course sometimes though the music that's arising might not come through as clearly as it could - perhaps because we're holding some kind of limiting relationship to the energy - attachment or identity - karma for example. This is where we're then caused to process out that energy so that the note sings sweetly once more.
So yes, archetypes help 'turn up the volume' of natural aspects of beingness and also help us see where the harmonics are not always singing sweetly.
