Everything is spiritual!
Hi Light,
Wonderful question! Yes you are spiritual - at least in my understanding.
To me the word 'spirit' means consciousness and since everything arises from consciousness and is 'built' from it, then EVERYTHING is spiritual.
If I read the energy in your questions though, what I believe is being considered is the difference between feeling spiritual and not.
To me 'unity consciousness' - that from which everything is configured - is arrayed into two polarities throughout the universe. When the universe came into being it first 'divided' into two - 'is' and 'is not' (for want of better terms). Each is a mirror of the other and it is from the interplay of these two principles that reltivity exists and ALL experience can be had.
The 'is not' was caused to flow outwards from the centre observed as the 'big bang'. The vibration slowed and slowed forming gases, liquids and solids. Eventually planets came into being and as we know life evolved on at least some of them.
The 'is' part also flowed outwards and imbued some of the life forms, early homonids for example, with individual consciousness enabling them to become self aware.
However, the 'is' part lost itself in the 'is not' - in other words it identified with the body/minds of the evolving beings. Over time the 'is' rediscovers its true identity which plays out through you and I - we wake up!
We wake up to the fact that we are a part of unity consciousness and are each a unique divine expression of that. At this point we FEEL spiritual - even though we were spiritual all along.
Hope this helps
Chris
I agree, everyone is
I agree, everyone is spiritual. However, one's connection to spirit goes up and down in varying cycles: sometimes "the line is good", at other times there's a lot of "interference on the line", so to speak. The various threads on here about vibrations give some clues to how this might work.
Be very careful about questions like "Am I a spiritual person". The danger here is ego attachment to "my spiritual progression", thus setting oneself apart from others; there's also the risk of judging others as "non-spiritual" and less progressed.
Equally, don't beat yourself up if you have doubts or fall back from time to time. One of the consequences of spiritual development is that you open up in many other ways, and this can lead you into unexpected, challenging, and sometimes even very problematic experiences.
Put another way, in my view, "the path is the destination"
Well said
"The path is the destination" - well said!

Is your connection to 'spirit' broadband or dial up?
Liberation wrote "I agree, everyone is spiritual. However, one's connection to spirit goes up and down in varying cycles: sometimes "the line is good", at other times there's a lot of "interference on the line", so to speak."
We could also ask whether or not we have a broadband connection to 'spirit', unhindered and always on line, or whether we have a dial up connection... whereby we just dial up and connect for a limited amount of time, and whenever we feel like it.

Well,
quite frequently the line seems to be engaged...
Where does the ego fit into spirituality?
The penny drops as I read your reply (for the third time) Chris. Thank-you. I love the explanation of is getting lost in the is-not and then finding itself again.
You are so right it is the feeling of being spiritual or not that I have been uncertain about.
I am with Liberation in that my line quite frequently seems to be engaged (or rather my IS is lost in the IS-NOT). I am on dial up, and even when I want it too the line doesn't hook up.
Thanks for the advice also Liberation. To be honest, I do tend to beat myself up when I slip up and get lost.
Where does ego fit into all of this? Are ego and spirituality compatable? Or rather is it possible for the IS to rediscover its true identity and have an ego on the go at the same time?
Engaged lines
Hi Light,
It could be that your 'line' (so to speak) is not engaged at all. The question is what are you expecting to hear?
For me, the key to truly spiritual living in these realms, is to be tuned into the delicate subtlety of the etheric energies rather than just the grossness of the physical realms.
By that I mean that when we are used to being fully engaged in the external world of physicality, then we attune to the dense vibrations. In other words we only tend to experience gross physical stimulus - sounds, sights, feelings.
Because this world is so 'loud' in all these areas and because there are so many distractions, we become desensitised to anything else.
In truth however, these dense vibrations represent only a minute part of the total spectrum of experience available to us.
In order to pick up these other vibrations we have to still our own internal metabolisms. So our metabollic rate needs to be slowed by eating the right foods and the mind has to be detoxified of endless repetative thought control programs. We also need to master our emotions by non identification with them.
The way to do this is to sit frequently in complete silence and stillness with the attention turned inside. Breathing helps to locate the subtle inner vibrations of the energetic body.
When we begin to pick these up, if we keep tuning into them, our awareness of the energy intensifies and we start to become sensitised to the higher vibrations.
Then instead of our awareness being identified with the ego and all that it is associated with, we identify with the true self beginning with a very subtle representation - perhaps a feeling of peace or a tiny vibration or a warmth or the vision of a tiny flame.
The challenge then arises to associate with this true self all the time, even when engaged in the grossness of the physical world.
As you begin to do this, then you sense the etheric vibrations associated with 'spiritual living'. This energy then feeds into our daily experience in a number of ways:
These are just a few.
So you ARE connected all the time but perhaps not listening to the right noises. Once you do this, your dial up indeed becomes permenant streaming broad band!
So where is the ego in all this? The ego - the personality - becomes a malliable tool of the indwelling true self. As we stay in association with the true self, then the distortions we have built up over the years within the ego are revieled.
In each distortion lies a hidden gift. We can learn to identify the gifts and attune more to them than the distortions. The more we express the gift, the more the distortions dissolve.
When this happens, the ego becomes a magical harmonised tool able to completely express your destined state of beingness.

Meat, dairy and spirituality
Wow! I had never quite looked at it that way before. I am beginning to understand (and experience) that what we are looking for is always there and we can choose whether or not to tune into it. That's reassuring. I guess it is a matter of personal choosing, and the way we live life can either support our tuning in, or hinder it
I gave up meat and dairy recently after feeling strongly pushed away from these foods for a few reasons (i.e. I saw how these animals were mistreated and how much destruction their production creates in our ecosystem and felt almost ashamed of myself at condoning that).
Since then I have a much stronger realization of my spiritualness. It is like the vibration of meat and dairy was keeping me bogged down in an lower energetic state.
It is having big knock on effects and I am now feeling much more of a connection to people and nature than I have ever done.
Spiritual experiences
Another relevant aspect to this discussion is the place of spiritual experiences. One reads about visions, telepathy, seeing auras, premonitions, ecstatic bliss, manifestations, astral projection, Kundalini, extended conciousness: the list goes on and on.
In my truth, I see these experiences as signposts or markers on the road to fuller self-realization: really, just hints and pointers that we are on the right path and should continue our progression. They are neither a precondition to, nor a proof of, spiritual development and nor should they become a goal in themselves. Further, some are even open to abuse.
As they will come and go, just "enjoy the journey", but don't get attached to the incidental experiences on the way!
Compassionate lifestyle choices and being spiritual
After my awakening I spontaneously changed my diet overnight and actually went vegan, stopped consuming animal products altogether. One might say that it was because of my response to a spontaneous pull from the heart, or guidance from higher consciousness. In those days I didn't have much of clue about how lifestyle choices affected our vibrational frequency, so thankfully I was listening to higher guidance (which knew better than my tiny mind did).
When I adopted a compassionate lifestyle initially thought I was just doing it for the planet, for the animals, for nature and lastly for personal health but by far the most reaching benefit was to assist my own spiritual evolution. It was oddly enough even easier back then to change my life unconditionally for something other than me. But of course, we are all connected, and what goes around comes around.
We cannot carry out a divinely inspired or heart inspired action without it having a ripple effect through the fabric of our personal little world.
Attachment to 'spiritual experiences'
Liberation, your profound reflections are inspiring! I couldn't agree more with your comment above. ALL experiences are just markers along the road (some more entertaining and exciting than others) to remind us of who we are, nothing more. Great advice.
I often have the most 'amazing' experiences during meditational states of consciousness (they just seem to happen, I never sought them). HOWEVER to me the most profound of all experiences, is when I experience something reminiscent of 'nothingness'... now that IS bliss available to us all!
If we are attached to the incidentals along the way, we risk trying to recreate our spiritual experiences and end up missing what is being offered to us right now.
