Love is all encompassing and does not restrict itself to 'this' or 'that'.
Chuang Tzu, I feel, points out that when we become engrossed in these pleasures we may miss the essence of life... and what is anything worth if we negate that?
Whilst we may become intoxicated with emotions that entice us to stay bound to our personal pleasures, we may fail to notice the prison that we have built around ourselves and deny the real opportunity of freedom.
The quote above may be seen as having a harshness... but having come this far on my personal unfolding, it describes so well something I too feel within. I would rather weather the storms of freedom, than live as a 'happy' bird in a cage. That is if freedom means that I am to serve my true purpose in life and allow my soul to shine forth. If there is one thing that I have learnt, it is that when we are true to ourselves we are blessed with an unmistakable peace within.

Smoke and mirrors

I just had to post a comment after reading your posting Trin. It speaks so loudly to me and really resonates with what I'm currently experiencing. In every moment, no matter how hard (or easy 
) I'd rather cry with freedom than sing in prison.
And I've found by staying in the eye of storm, the clouds do eventually clear and beyond is beauty mirrored beyond the bars of a jail.
But as always, thank you to Openhand for the reminders. Sometimes it's all too easy to stray off centre and get caught up in the storm and drama. It's good to remember that no matter what's going around, inside it is possible to find peace and calm that is all our own.

I totally agree with you and this invaluable teaching. Yes it is really hard sometimes to discern our true essence when clouded by feeling and emotion. This is why I tend to rely on the objective hand of Synchronicity to show me the truth. It helps me make sense of what I'm really feeling. Why do certain patterns keep recreating themselves for example? This mirror often works best within our relationships and daily interactions with the people around us - especially loved ones.
The key to following the heart is profound self honesty and then going with the truth at whatever apparent personal cost. It is then that we soar like the eagles that we are!
