I have a problem with a chattering mind!

I came to Openhand First Tuesday on 5th July with Teresa.. I just wanted to say that I found the
session really incredible. I've never managed to get into any kind of meditation before as I have the kind of mind that is always chattering away off another track. It was amazing to be able to start getting what it is all about in a very strong way. Thanks for the help.

Chattering mind problem in meditation

I've found the key is not to try to still the mind but to move into internal awareness. It's like carrying a tray of hot food into a room. If you tell the person not to drop the tray, the tendency is to drop the tray! If you tell them to notice their feet and how evenly the weight is in both hands they don't drop the tray.
If we move into bodily awareness less energy is given to thought. Overtime the mind stills - even though it is not necessary to have a still mind to meditate.
When the mind becomes still, we start to recognise thoughts that come from higher consciousness - guidance.
