At times in this world it can often seem like we are the ONLY ONE making a conscious choice; or at least, wondering if there are enough of us pulling together to really make a difference. We might wonder what the point of doing anything consciously is, if the rest of the world seems intent on living in a blissful ignorance. I know, EVERY conscious choice; every act of benevolence, does make a difference! It's all about the energy, not the perceived outcome. It's about the moment and what we feel inspired to do. Our choices really do send out a beacon. They are felt through the waves of unity consciousness, touching others in untold ways.
I found this little story, a variation of the 'Original Star Fish Story' by Loren Eisley. It speaks of the absolute joy of making a difference, no matter how insignificant it might seem to another. I hope it warms your heart the way it did mine...
One day a man was walking along the beach when he noticed a little girl picking something up and gently throwing it into the ocean.
Approaching the little girl, he asked, “What are you doing?”
She replied, “Throwing starfish back into the ocean. The surf is up and the tide is going out. If I don’t throw them back, they’ll die.”
“Little girl,” the man said, “Don’t you realize there are miles and miles of beach and hundreds of starfish? You can’t make a difference!”
After listening politely, the girl bent down, picked up another starfish, and threw it back into the surf.
Then, smiling at the man, she said, “I made a difference for that one.”
The Starfish Story
A variation of the original story
So, don't ever doubt, that one act of loving kindness can't make a difference.

It's all about the energy

That seems to be such a common concept, "What difference is that going to make, or am I going to make?"
Amongst being a commando this weekend I also had the delight of spending some time with my family, well, my biological one anyway.
As is quite typical, a topic or conversation arises, where my view and understanding is quite different from the majority. At this point stand points and beliefs tend to become very logical, and conditioned ways of thinking become rife. This is often conditioning that I am still in the process of unwinding in myself, so naturally I try to take it deeper. Head and brick wall come to mind.
So the topic of conversation led into the meat and dairy industry. As we each shared and talked about it, it was clear that everyone seemed conscious of the fact that there is a huge amount of suffering within it. Although this was recognized, there seemed to be a common theme of justification for still supporting it, and from what I could feel a very conditioned one. And funnily enough one of the things my younger sister said was "What difference will it make if I stop eating meat, things will still carry on the way they are". This may be true, sure, "but what about the difference to you, are you ok with supporting an industry that causes untold suffering?" I can't remember her verbal response, but I do remember observing her energy changing, as a deeper depth of contemplation activated within her.
This was clearly highlighting the very matrixy condition that if "they" are doing it, then it must be alright if "I" do it, or at least I can hide under that umbrella.
This, as I was seeing, is overwriting many peoples basic nature to feel for themselves, to really go into the heart and feel what is right.
I'm not trying to say I was right and they are wrong (well a little bit, maybe), more encourage an exploration deeper beyond that of the mind.
This post, and beautiful story, reminds me that it doesn't matter if it is one, or one million, the energy is still the same, and that that is what is really worth honoring.
Thank you
David

Society, your crazy breed
15 October, 2012 - 13:15 — Chris BourneI'm reading this in Budapest Airport. I just ate a raw salad, deliberating about needing a paper serviette (I didn't). So I sit down and eat my salad and across from me is a group of 20-something-year-olds eating KFC. They carried all this stuff from the counter - the KFC Classic "Bucket" - ate the 'food' and then dumped the mountain of packaging in the bin. I was thinking how much packaging for a small amount of food, just a few steps away from where it was served.
So a few minutes pass, obviously they're not yet satiated, they go back for round two. Small amount of food and again, a big heap of packaging that all ends up in the bin. And this is how we live in 'society'. Still, I feel great about not taking that serviette.

The energy
15 October, 2012 - 13:27 — Trinity BourneIt certainly is 'all about the energy David'... what a great sharing.
I've heard the "well, it won't make any difference if I stop, so I might as well just keep doing it" arguement soooooo many times! You really have to be touching a depth of conscience to fully grasp that it really does make can make a difference to make a conscious choice.
Every one person making a conscious choice, sends a ripple outwards. I have noticed that there are always very few people blazing the trail. Change always begins with one choice.
“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed, citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.”
Margaret Mead
I really resonate with this that you wrote:

An over riding of the ability to go within and truly feel the interconnectedness of all things. I always found it challenging to understand why people found it so difficult to touch that space of real feeling. The natural state of human beingness has certainly be derailed!

Crazy breed
15 October, 2012 - 13:35 — Trinity BourneWhat a great song Chris!
Yes, what a crazy breed.
I am so glad you didn't take the serviette. It does matter.
I was just contemplating this morning about how little money I have in matrixy terms (or have ever had) and how people complain at not having enough (when they earn twice as much as I do!). I know people who thrive on very little in the way of material wealth. Usually the most fulfilled people of all though! I was just reminding myself of how little we actually really need to have a happy, healthy, abundant existence. It all comes from only taking what we actually need.
No awareness
15 October, 2012 - 16:10 — KitalaChris, your tale of the 'bargain bucket' reminded me of two things this weekend. I was running along a country path along the river into town, and in the hedges were the discarded paper bags for KFC, McDonald's, plus a plastic bottle, and then in town I saw a women with a toddler. The little girl had an ice cream tub and she dropped her plastic spoon. Her mother also had a tub, plus an extra spoon, so she gave the child the new one, but left the old one on the ground, despite there being numerous bins. I wondered if the food you eat affects the brain so that when you eat the junk, you also don't give a thought as to what you will do with the waste?
On a brighter note I have a great cooking apple crop this year so I have been dolling out bags of organic granny smith apples to neighbours and friends. I have been promised my 'just desserts' in return.
