Music, yeah!

Dear Everybody,

would you please care to share some of your favourite music be it for meditation, for listening with the kids, for lifting the sprits.

All genres welcome! I just find my collection not suitable anymore to these times and flows - would love to find sounds, words and feelings more connected Wink

Thanks a million,
Alexej

A hundred thousand angels - Bliss

"A hundred thousand angels" by Bliss is a beautiful album.

I used to listen to it a lot a few years ago and one or two of the tracks often make an appearance in the Openhand workshops. I must admit I tend not to listen to much music these days and am always interested in new inspirational tunes.

At the moment I am listening to the bird song through my open window Innocent

JJ Grey and Mofro

JJ Grey and Mofro are a wonderful band from north Florida who cross blues, swamp rock, funk and soul. They are an amazing band, and I discovered them relatively recently. JJ Grey def "gets it". He loves to tell little stories about his songs during live performances. On their live album they do a song called Lochloosa, which for JJ is a serene place getting back with nature.
Hey says: "someone told me, well you just go there to escape reality, and I thought about it for a bit, and I thought, well maybe I DO go there to escape reality. But then I thought a little bit longer and realized, no hoss, you got it backwards. I go there to GET TO reality....to get away from all these problems I create..."

I recommend the songs "Brighter Days", "Lochloosa", "Beautiful World", "King Hummingbird"
Those are just a couple of his more soulful songs to get you started. If you like when an artist gives you goosebumps, then JJ Grey and Mofro will be right up your alley. Enjoy Smile

ahh music...

Hi Guys

I used to listen to a whole variety of music. I really enjoyed hip hop and rock etc. But also more gentle and formless things over time. at some point though it seems I subtly labelled some of my listening choices as 'not-spiritual' and stopped listening to them!
Now I listen to a wider variety again. I'm actually really inspired by some real rock music at times for example. I love how music can really uplift or affect the energy in various ways, and how we can use it to ride higher or deeper into feelings, and aspects of beingness. I like so many artists and songs that's it feel difficult to tell you just one or two, but perhaps I'll think of some that I can.

thanks for the post. how powerful music can be. Wink

what a pleasure, Ben,

to be reading so many of your words as of recently Smile

If you can show me some great ray1 music that is not tipping to being hard and exclusive, that'd be nice. But sounds and words that sooth, calm, clear are always very gratefully welcomed, since the big city environment specifically asks for it Wink

I've rediscovered Miles Davis these days. Words along with music are so immensely powerful, if it's "only" music the choice is wider it feels to me these days.

With love,
A

Not at all!

It's not me, it's Eno who wrote the music Wink

There are just a few things that bring joy to my heart these days: trees, grass, sky, this site and music. I am so blessed! Laughing out loud

Here's a beautiful song by Snatam Kaur:

music through the rays

Thankyou Alexij! Smile

yes I feel to connect more through the site at the moment. I really feel more of a sense of appreciation for this resource and beautiful community!

As for Ray 1 music. I find for me a whole range of music can invoke that energy and I think its different for everyone. Something quite quiet can feel very inspiring (like music from films e.g. gladiator, for example). So there may be an invitation for each to find their own.
Here are a few suggestions I thought of...

Queen - 'one vision' (among others)
Metallica - Nothing else matters
Reef - Place your Hands

Snow Patrol - Take Back the City Wink
Coldplay - Til Kingdom Come
Alanis Morrisette - (various)

More ray 2, beautiful inspiring...

Fighting the foo

We've been confronting darkness on Openhandweb recently. On one of my ventures into the dark several years back it was the Foo Fighters that helped me through. It's times like these you learn to love again...

Funny life

I don't know why, but when watching the video I just started laughing. It felt as if the universe is saying: "Look, how ridiculously funny life is!" Laughing out loud

The Chromatics Ray1 music

Rarely I run into some meditative tune with rhythm. This one definitely falls under this category.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vWD7k6TrJ-g

Till now I tried to dance with it, do warrior-yoga and even sit quietly without moving when I need some clarity, focus and stabilization and also for fear processing. It's working.

Despite all the conventional ideas what meditation music should be like it IS meditative (at least for me). Smile
