One for the Ladies

I would like to connect with the woman out there, and see if there are any suggestions to work through and find support during the menstral cycle and the often irrational associated emotions during this time. Obviously everyone has different experiences but I have been watching myself over the last 3 months in particular and it is a very subtle but significant shift for me during this time.
If i was living in a tribe for example the woman would go into lodge together and the men would do all the work etc. It I believe was a time of respect for the woman and probably much more understanding.
I know there are so many woman out there who maybe don't even recognise their behaviour patterns during this time and then beat themselves up for being unreasonable and not having a clue why they are.
I do not see this time as a time of negativity or illness but in modern society we do not seem to have the chance to go inward at this time and be quiet and have the support.
Roll on a time when we can I guess!!
Interested to hear some feed back.

Sacred moontime...

Hi Marion,

Thank you for bringing up a so often overlooked subject. I've just returned from our Manchester seminar, so am flying through. In the mean time, you may be intersted in this supportive article here: http://www.openhandweb.org/honouring_the_sacred_cycle_moontime

Love and hugs

One for the gentlemen too!

Thanks Marion for bringing attention to this tremendously important subject - and since we all live together in community, I find it essential that guys understand the deep implications of Moon Time too because it effects all our relationships - I for one find it vital to my life to understand and empathise.

Much love!

Chris

Moontime coming to an end

Some additional hints for women whose moontime is coming to an end (or, who are approaching menopause, as it is conventionally called).

I highly recommend 'hormonal yoga' by the Brazilian Dinah Rodrigues. It has saved my life! - I was beginning to develop all kinds of symptoms (insomnia, irritability, mood swings etc.), probably induced by too much 'male' sports, apart from the normal ageing process, that is. - Did you know that some women athletes enter menopause in their 30s or even 20s because of the sharp drop in hormones induced by too much exercise?

Dropping or wildly fluctuating hormone levels are responsible for a lot of the symptoms occurring around menopause: from heat waves, migraines to insomnia, depression, high blood pressure and/or cholesterol, osteoporosis etc.

Hormonal yoga is a combination of specific yoga exercises which affect the ovaries, thyroid, pituitary, adrenals, with particular breathing techniques, bandhas, mudras & the direction of energy into the places worked on etc. I don't like the hype about it and haven't felt the need to attend a course (over here they are offered everywhere). - If you have some background in yoga, you can teach yourself from the book. The most important thing is to do the exercises as regularly as possible, daily would be great (when you know them, they take about 30 minutes); once the hormone levels have stabilised, it is sufficient to do them once or twice a week.

For more information on the subject (Rodrigues' book also gives some medical information and advice on nutrition),I found the book "The Wisdom of Menopause" by Christiane Northrup helpful (whom you may remember as the author of the classic "Women's bodies, women's wisdom").

With love to my fellow sisters,
Tasneem

About bras...

I find it very difficult to do what I feel like, since in Israel it's very inappropriate going around without, but this thing is literally choking me, despite all it's benefits I feel that it's betterfor me without, so what do we do? Sad

Bra stories

I never used one till my early thirties (somehow my mom never introduced me to them so it didn't happen). Then one day I was wearing a stretch dress and looking at myself in the mirror, I thought: "My breasts really start drooping so may be I should start wearing a bra." So this was when I bought my first bra. By the time I found out it was actually the stretch material that had worn out, I had already become accustomed to it.

P.S. Do you know what to call a topless bikini in Spanish? - Well, it's called a 'monokini', of course!
