Oxfam Unwrapped

Christmas is coming and with it the perennial question...what do you get for friends and loved ones? This year instead of buying the typical presents - perfume, books, CDs etc. etc. etc. - why not buy something really useful and gift it (on your friends behalf) to someone who could really use it? Read on...

Oxfam is running a campaign whereby you can buy a useful gift for someone, a goat for example, and a card is sent to your friend or loved one saying that their present has gone to help someone in need. The program is called 'Oxfam unwrapped'.

Goats are like a living bank. Manure can be spread on crops so the soil becomes more fertile and productive. Goats can be sold to raise cash for school fees, or tools, and start to reduce poverty. So villagers get a goat and look after them until they produce a female kid. The first kid goes back into the goat loan scheme and gets given to a new person and the process starts again. All in all a pretty amazing gift for only £24!
