As I melted into an Openhand meditation this morning I received some very powerful and spontaneous visions...

The sensations I experienced were of candle wax pouring from my right ear, turning solid, clinging to the outer form of my body.

My body was a candle.

From the candle emerged a bright flame. It seemed to me as if this was the flame of divine inspiration that prevails throughout all things. I noticed myself identified with the flame (and not the candle - "my body"), as if it were my true self.

The flame began to melt the candle, first forming a pool that began to dissipate into the ether. The more it burned, the brighter it grew and the more the candle melted.

As 'form' disappeared altogether, all that remained was an eternal flame.

Everything disappeared and melted into the nothingness from which it originally arose. All there was was a flame... but even this flame eventually died and left nothing but silence.

Whilst I recommend that we allow visions, or guidance to spontaneously arise for us during meditation. It may help provide inspiration if you imagine your body as a candle, and the flame as your true self... and melt away into blissful nothingness. An amazing way to release attachment to our thoughts, emotions and things that we stake a claim to.
