"Psychic", what does it mean?
In the swirl of misconceptions, misunderstandings, and general confusion surrounding the fields of parapsychology and psychic activity, most people have no idea how to make distinctions between different types of psychic abilities.
Wait a minute, you say, I didn’t even know there were different types! You’re in the same boat as most everyone else who has a basic understanding of psychic reading and activity. Little does the general public know, it’s not all tarot cards and psychic phone reading  There are sharply defined distinctions between everything from the obvious (tarot reading and telepathy) to the surprising (clairaudience, clairsentience, and clairvoyance).
First, let’s discuss what defines psychic ability in the first place! Extra-sensory perception (ESP), prophesies of the future, and a “sixth sense†could all be defined under the blanket term “psychic abilityâ€Â. But where does psychic ability come from? Actually, no one really knows – not even psychic readers. People who claim to have psychic abilities describe a sense of just “having it†without having any conception of how it got there. Most say that it is part of their regular consciousness, and that they simply “know†or “feel†things before, during, or after they happen – despite being unable to explain how. Though parapsychology has been heavily criticized, scrutinized, and stigmatized, the truth is that as much evidence points towards its veracity as against it.
So what are some of the different types of psychic abilities? To begin with, there is the art of “channeling,†which is defined as the ability to receive and transmit information from another external consciousness while in a decidedly altered state of mind. Though each incident varies in intensity and resulting activity, many share the same basic traits: a semi-trance like state and the appearance of an outer entity expressing itself through the channeler. Many people have been able to obtain a psychic reading of another entity and consciously channel that entity – but professional parapsychologists don’t recommend trying it until you’ve been well-trained and prepared.
Three more (related) types of psychic ability are clairaudience, clairsentience, and clairvoyance. Clairaudience is generally defined as the ability to hear or sense sounds that cannot be perceived by a non-psychic person. Clairsentience is another type of extrasensory perception in that clairsentient people can sense past, present, or future events through “sensing†them, though non-clairsentient people cannot perceive them. Clairvoyance is a synonym for extrasensory perception – any knowledge or consciousness of an event outside of seeing, hearing, tasting, touching, or smelling it.
Divination is another often-misunderstood type of psychic ability. Divination is the act of making prophesies or predictions through the practice of occult arts. Contrary to popular belief, this is different from intuition – which is defined as the ability to perceive or act based on “just knowing†that it’s the right thing to do. Tarot Cards and tarot reading is a form of divination. Although the mainstream ideas of divination and intuition have been tweaked to seem like anyone can tap into this psychic energy field, the truth is that only a few people take the time to hone and develop their extrasensory perception skills.
What’s the difference between psychometry and psychokinesis? Well, psychometry is defined as the ability to glean information about an object by obtaining physical contact with the object. Good examples of this are seen in countless movies. Envision it: The hero touches a book and, upon contact, is filled with images of its previous user and the fate that befell him or her. Psychokinesis is the ability to move objects through willing it or thinking it.

When the world falls away...
What an informative post. Thank you for sharing, and welcome to the forum
I have noticed that by being surrendered to higher consciousness my layers of distorted patterning (thoughts and attachments) fall away. What is left is an awareness expanded beyond the trivialities of ordinary life, one that experiences the connectedness of all things. In this awareness, I find that there is often 'higher' comminication, knowing, a seeing or comprehension of things beyond our 'ordinary' reality. This is not something I have ever consciously asked for, or an state of awareness that I have tried to attain. I trust that in working from a place of profound sincerity that we are given what ever it we need in order to serve our divine purpose here.
I can only speak from my perspective. Experiences of higher dimensions, obe's and a nde have shown me that ultimately when we take away the 'programmes', the fabricated realities that we have created for ourselves that we are all translucent beings.
How did things come about for you? Why the interest in psychic matters?
Thanks for the interesting post

Hi Good question, not sure

Good question, not sure how to answer it... mmmm well I guess I was always psychic, however, like many more people I didn't realise it. So I guess I just unfolded into this side of my life.... ;>)

We are all psychic!
Yes thanks for a thoroughly interesting article Reiki2.
I guess like many, as I began to awaken to the realities of 'God' (the absolute within us), I too began to see that skills like telepathy, esp, clairvoyance etc are very real phenomena that could be of tremendous value to us.
It seems to me this point of realisation comes with a great danger however. An identity tends to form inside seeking answers to life's problems. This is where so called psychics and mediums who seem able to provide answers get elevated above the only true being that can answer those questions - the one inside of us.
Fortunately I was shown the value of 'surrender' - surrendering to the absolute truth of what is currently going on in our lives. If we look past the denial of the mind, the moment always reveals exactly what we need to know in this moment - right now.
Once we surrender to 'what is' and give up efforting for 'what could be', then questions arise not from the mind but from the void within us - from the absolute. In my experience, unlike questions that originate from the mind, these questions are ALWAYS answered.
In my truth, as we let go of false realities, hopes and desires that we think we want, then inner activity quietens which yields the ability to experience much more.
We are each exposed to around 400 billion bytes of information every second but the brain can only process around 2000 of these. In this overload of information, which information does consciousness focus on? The answer is that information which fits the map of reality the mind has come to expect.
However as we remove expectation and need, we find that our consciousness is guided to experience other information that supports our natural unfolding. This information tends to blow gaping holes in the reality we have been previously limited by. We discover inner skills we never dreamed possible.
For me, there is only ever one question to ask: "what would you have me do now?" If ever in doubt, I provide space for that question in my awareness and watch for the answer. Since we cannot change the past and the future unfolds out of what we do in the moment, what else do we need to know?
The other key thing to realise, is that we already have everything we need to be EXACTLY who we are. If we don't have something, its because we don't need it to make the choice we now need to make.
I believe as with all helpers and guides, an external psyhcic is being of most value when through their skills, they can help us realise our own inner capabilities.
Best wishes
Chris

I would agree with your comments, I have always felt that giving readings is about trying to help others to find there true selves/potential. For me its not about telling some one what to do, rather I see it as channeling a persons future potentials, which can then be used in the moment to assist them on there souls journey.

Isn't 'psychic' just a label?
In my experience, I've had many experiences over the years which have led me to believe that there is a world beyond the one we merely experience through the regular 5 senses. This has led me to places of safety in times of danger or led me to meet up with friends in unexpected places or led me to an understanding of things that I may have missed or just to know truths, for example.
In the summer I had a very profound spiritual awakening. In Trin's words, this was certainly something I didn't ask for, nor did I expect it. Since then, my ability to know certain things, feel certain truths or be led to certain experiences has increased considerably.
For me, to say that I am now psychic because of this, makes me feel uncomfortable because it places certain connotations on the experience. It places an attachment on my experience that I feel I do not need nor want.
I feel that these experiences occur when the humdrum of life has been quietened inside me. The stuff of life has dissolved from interfering from what is truth and from what is actually happening. When life is too busy, when it's too hectic, the things in my life that cause this buzz interfere with the information that I would ordinarily receive. Messages get lost and cannot reach me because I am surrounded by the stuff of this life. Matter if you like. Once I still the buzz, the noise, the messages flow again.
To me receiving these messages or truths does not feel like a gift. It just is. I hear because at that point I am listening. It is something we all have access to, were we only to listen.
As my spiritual development unfolds around me, so too does my future change and so if I were to have a reading, it could only be relevant to that time, that place, that moment. If this future is set in stone, does that then prevent other futures from appearing before me?

Spiritual experiences = signposts
I (and others) have had a number of "spiritual" experiences, at workshops or elsewhere. Now, I am not attached to these experiences and simply regard them as signposts to indicate that I am hopefully on a right path towards further spiritual development.
Really, I see them as just messages that I am on the right path and should continue. To become attached to any particular manifestation of them, e.g. clairvoyance, and become identified with it would IMO be a grave error, and a definitive step on building the impostor ego.
Such an impostor ego would itself require liquidation at at a later stage of one's psychical development, q.v. The Transfiguration, so why develop it anyway?
Tuned In
I like to refer to my ability as "Tuning into energy vibration".
My earliest recollection was when I was 5 years of age. I always had an "absolute" knowing. I never thought anything of it nor did I ever question it. I knew how to raise my energy frequency through different methods of meditation so that I could tap into energies vibrating at a higher frequency.
For me, its like the flesh on my bones and the blood in my viens. By raising my awareness I nurture, enhance, recharge, improve.
