Law of attraction

Hey I had a few questions about some of the blogs I read on this website. I am still fresh to this scene and was wondering about some of the philosophy. I recently purchased a book about the law of attraction to attract positive things in your life and what not. I was wondering if the people who made this website believe in some form of the law of attraction or not, it seems they didn't. All so another blog stated matter over mind, which confused me, but I think i missed the point of that statement. I just wanted to know because there are some soul and physical things I wanted to heal about my self. thanks

Law of attraction

Hi Lightthepath,

Welcome to the forum Smiling

Yes indeed the "Law of Attraction" has been much publicised and in my view much distorted. I do definitely believe we create our external environment by our inner state of consciousness - in which case you might say "like attracts like".

However what I don't agree with is then trying to manifest our state of consciousness in order to acquire something or change the external environment - why not?

We are all moving to enlightenment, which means to unfold into a state of non-identified awareness. We don't experience ourselves as a personality or an ego which can be imprisoned by our fears or desires, rather we taste ourselves as the absolute which is unbridled by these things.

If we try to shape the external events of our lives in a particular way by changing our inner state of consciousness, it is effectively saying "I am not accepting of the situation the way it is" which generates attachment and with that identity which in turn separates us from the experience of ourselves as "the all that is"...

Desire is a judgment of the moment,
saying "I judge that outcome is better than this one",
It is caused by fear and ignorance,
not trusting what the universe is unfolding.
It is like applying the hand brake to a moving car,
it leads to fate rather than destiny.
    Desire requires effort...
enlightenment requires lack of all effort.

    Openhand

So the key is to accept that we create on the outside what we are being on the inside but then instead of trying to shape the external, we see it more as a mirror to the internal. In so doing we have a choice to recognise our distorted pattern of behaviour and release it by instead allowing authentic higher truth to be expressed.

If we do the latter, our distortions (fixed neural pathways in the brain born of conditioned behaviours) will dissolve and the authentic beingness of the soul will arise.

The work you're referring to in terms of "law of attraction" I guess is "The Secret". It has become very popular but in my opinion (and others) is leading many people astray. You might appreciate this very amusing and yet powerful view on it...

Matter over mind

Hi Lightthepath,

In answer to your other question about "matter over mind", of course we're often told of the power of "mind over matter". In the case your referring to, I was writing about how all too frequently we tend not to listen to the body and what it is telling us.

Many people tend to be lead by the mind so if they want to do something, they will override what the body is telling them. But the body is highly intelligent in its own right and if we tune in and listen, then it will guide us in many ways.

Did you know for example that the body has the intrinsic power to spontaneously heal itself? What stops it is the judgments the mind tends to make in response to pain or injury. In other words the mind believes in the drama created by the experience of pain, creates a false reality around it (from all of the imagined repercussions) and then manifests that reality for us.

However if we can experience the feeling of pain without judging it, then we tend to bring in higher consciousness to the area of the pain which will enable the body to heal itself.

I've experienced this countless times both in myself and others. Its why I know that if we - as the mind - get out of the way, the body has the power to do seemingly miraculous things.

Law of attraction

Your perspective on the law of attraction is very helpful.

I especially like this part:

"If we try to shape the external events of our lives in a particular way by changing our inner state of consciousness, it is effectively saying "I am not accepting of the situation the way it is" which generates attachment and with that identity which in turn separates us from the experience of ourselves as "the all that is"..."

Law of attraction

What if I wanted to attract a good life, say my dream, some money writing books, what do i have to do to manifest it then?

Re: Law of attraction

Lightthepath wrote: "What if I wanted to attract a good life, say my dream, some money writing books, what do i have to do to manifest it then?"

We are all able to manipulate the illusion if we so choose, in which case there are a myriad of teachings that specialise in keeping us locked in the illusion. Openhand is about liberating us from that illusion and removing the blockages that prevent us from unleashing our authentic and natural pathway in life.

I have found that by being profoundly honest (to myself) about my true nature that manifestation happens naturally as an expression of my authentic beingness. In which case I get EVERYTHING I need in order to be exactly who I am here, fulfilling my soul purpose during this incarnation (and what other reason is there for being here).

Our true nature is whole and complete and wants for nothing (because is is WHOLE and COMPLETE and entirely supported by higher guiding consciousness).

I went through a period of manifesting my wants and desires (and seemed to do rather well at it), until I recognised that I could never find want I was looking for outside in the external world. I also found that I could not bypass the natural evolutionary process by creating a reality with my wants and desires. True peace and serenity only began to emerge when I began to authentically surrender to the flow of divine consciousness.

We only feel the need to 'manifest' things and situations when we don't fully trust that divine consciousness will look after us in every moment.

One of the sad things about manifesting our own reality is that we often invest so much time and energy in doing that, that we miss our true purpose in life.

Hope this helps.

The monkey in the mirror

The key is to realise everything that we encounter "out there" and even our experiences of what we encounter are simply reflections of an aspect of inner beingness.

So the external world is merely being a mirror to our inner state of completeness. The trouble is that our external world is so caught up in helping us chase illusionary dreams, hopes and aspirations that we all too easily identify with the external drama and miss the true goal - to experience ourselves as whole and complete beyond the fabric of the illusionary universe.

So we may experience temporary joy from a glass of wine for example but the key is to realise that the feeling of relaxation and peace it may give us is already inside and we can connect with that feeling when we learn to turn down the external chatter of the outside world.

Work like "The Secret" which encourages people to try to manifest their desires is simply leading people to identify with the drama and not absolute inner truth.

Trying to manifest external effects like a better job, more money, a more appropriate partner for example may seem to work initially but it is the road to leading to unhappiness and unfulfilment. The true and only purpose of being in existence at all is to come to know ourselves as what we truly are - already whole and complete.

Paradoxically when we can let go in this way, our inner consciousness - our soul - simply unfolds and we automatically manifest the lives we were destined to live - in my experience the outcome of this is far more magical and miraculous than even my wildest dreams. How would we all like to be a part of a planetary ascension for example? Who can imagine such a thing?

To experience the wonder of this we have to let go of attachment to the external drama.

Right now I have a picture in my mind of a monkey fumbling with a mirror trying to find the image of itself!

Hopefully it won't take us too long to figure out that conundrum Smiling

Best wishes

Chris

So if I begin to find

So if I begin to find myself, Things will unfold? I just don't want to be average my whole life, I feel like I need to do things. I want to be a part of what is going on. While external desires may leave us unhappy or only fill us with joy for alittle bit. the path of my destiny is what is fullfilling. I want to live out my dreams

Authentic purpose

If you just let go, your dreams will unfold only they will be authentic ones - those of your soul.

You say...

"I just don't want to be average my whole life"

There is no need to measure yourself against others. The question to ask is "how do you feel about myself?" "Does what I'm being right now serve me?" If not, what is it about your behaviour that doesn't serve? Then seek to dissolve that behaviour by finding a higher truth - that which reflects a greater unity with the whole.

You will find within every impulse to act, there is authentic truth often masked by a distortion of the mind. So for example in your statement...

"I feel like I need to do things."

The truth is we each have a purpose and we'll be feeling that inside. However where we - as the personality - become needy of that, in other words attached to it, then this is when our actions become distorted. We can't be authentic within our purpose because our actions are always tainted by the neediness.

Therefore notice the neediness and ask "why am I being needy? Am I not already complete and whole just as I am?" Seek to find that wholeness and then the neediness will dissolve leaving only authentic purpose.

Hope this helps Smiling

I read a quote by i think

I read a quote by i think bhudda saying not to dwell in the past and do not dream of the future, but focus on the present. what does that mean? I am new to this so some of this is confusing to me. So If I let go of the neediness my dreams will unfold and my purpose will present itself? I'm not measuring myself by other, but i feel i came here to do things and some of these replies while insightful beat around the bush....you have a website and found yourself what happened did you follow your dreams have a NDE etc i need to know the first couple steps so i can move forward

Being present

Hi Lightthepath,

No two paths are the same. Reading between the lines I feel that it is perhaps important that you explore what you are feeling.

As long as you are striving and searching outside of yourself then all answers are going to (as you say) appear to 'beat around the bush'. Until you are truly ready to move on, thing will not make much sense. No matter what you may hear or read, there is no short cut to spiritual evolution.

I think that the 'Buddha' was really clear when he said 'focus on the present'. The question you should be asking is what does it mean to you? Look inside yourself Take ownership of your own spiritual evolution and look within.

If you want to learn more about being in the present, I have heard of a book called "The Power of Now' by Eckhart Tolle. Apparently he skillfully and simply goes into great detail on the subject. I am sure it would benefit you to read it.

I wish you all the best on your journey.

Being present

This is a really thought provoking thread. I am quite new to my spiritual path and the idea of focussing on the present is a bit cumbersome for me. My head is always either stuck in what has happened or what I am thinking of going to do. Are there any way that could help me be to be present? I tried really hard today and noticed that I couldn't stop thinking!!! And everything I was thinking was either something that had happened in the past or that will in the future!

Thank you for your patience and help.

Moving to pure presence

Hi Melody, Lightthepath and others on this thread,

it seems we've switched from the "Law of Attraction" to "being present" so I've created a new topic and posted my replies to you all there.....

Coming from love

I read a quote by i think bhudda saying not to dwell in the past and do not dream of the future, but focus on the present. what does that mean? I am new to this so some of this is confusing to me. So If I let go of the neediness my dreams will unfold and my purpose will present itself? Hi Lightthepath,

It sounds like you have incarnated here as wayshower like myself. I recognise that strong will. Smiling

Perhaps my truths may be helpful here.

The first steps for me is noticing where i am coming from. Am i coming from my physical self or am i coming from love.

My core truth is that love is who I really am.
Once I know and experience who I really am...everything flows easily.

The difficulty is letting go of ALL ideas as to what "I think" love is.
Love is not simply a sense or feeling, love is not simply the opposite of fear, love is not simply overthere or overhere.

Love is more or less everywhere, nowhere and somewhere, all things, nothings and somethings at the same time.

It is not something I can think about with my mind...i can only ever feel love.
Love is not about understanding spiritual truths....it is simply about feeling more of it.

I could tell a person lots of great spiritual truths...but if it takes them away from feeling love then in my opinion it is best if I say nothing.

As regards to the budda saying you mentioned..i will say this.

Decide to step away from being against anything.
The feeling of love is whole...it is not against anything.

When we believe we are physical we often do things because we are really against something else.

For most people our dreams are usually statements against our past.

When I am experiencing love, my dreams are simply something i am for in the present. In other words i look upon what I desire with only a passion for it. I see only its potential, its magic, its wonder...like a child looking at christmas presents.

Feeling love helps you understand things better.

You will receive lots of spritual truths when you start feeling love ...but you will notice them only as a way to show you if you are moving away from who you really are. They are useful for that purpose only

Hope that helps
Kristian

Hi Kristian,

Thank you for sharing. When I read your posts it always feels to me as if I fall through the words Angel and instead feel the essence of what you are saying. Love is indeed beyond words.

A child at heart

Hi Trin,

Ohh was that the yippee i was hearing.
I always knew you are child at heart sliding through my words Smiling

You are right I am working at stepping away from using words as pointers.

I have been very humbled of late as I have realised more and more where the essence of anothers expression is coming from.

No words can point to potential.

I can feel now that to truely love someone is to feel their full potential when nothing in the expression is pointing to it.
When i feel that potential and act from there it is very evident that we all have pieces of the puzzle.
