The revenge of Gaia

On Wednesday I watched a fascinating documentary on James Lovelock - a free-thinking ninety year old scientist and author of The Revenge of Gaia. Often reviled by his peers, he continues to trample on scientific convention and maintains his prediction that the Earth will ultimately control mankind in order to restore balance at whatever catastrophic cost.

It seemed ironic (or synchronistic) that just a day later, a volcano should erupt in Iceland bringing air traffic in this country to a complete standstill!

It reminds me of a book by my favourite author, Patrick Tilley called Fade Out about the Universe pulling the plug on humanity in a global loss of electrical power sending mankind (literally) back into the dark ages.

Mr Lovelock is of the view that human efforts to control global warming or clean up the planet will have little or no effect. He is in no doubt, however that Gaia can and will do whatever is necessary to protect herself.

I agree

Mother Earth reclaiming herself

Fascinating Clive! I don't have T.V. so never watched this documentary and I can't say how I feel about James Lovelock.

What I do feel it that there is a natural equilibrium of the Universe. Mother Earth is a highly evolved sentient being moving toward ever greater levels of her own evolution. I don't necessarily see it as an intentional 'revenge' or effort to protect herself but rather a natural rebalancing much like the human body will seek to rid itself of invading organisms.

I agree with you that it is out of our hands now. The balance has been tipped. Important to remember though that we are still each on our own journey. We are invited to move to ever increasing levels of at-one-ment too. I know that some poeple believe 'we can't do anything so we might as well go on exploiting anyway!'

It feels like a huge blessing that we would be stripped of the technologies that have caused the exploitation of our planet. For one I feel delighted at the prospect of living without the distractions and complications of the modern world. I believe that if we attune to nature we are provided everything we need.

Thank you for bringing up such an important topic.

Homo Divinicus

Yes indeed Clive. I was guided by spirit to James Lovelock's work. I think he has a very clear overview of what could happen here in the 3rd Dimension and what is likely to happen...a 6 degree centigrade rise in temperatures which would mean devastation to human civilisation (as it currently stands) on a vast scale across the planet.

As I heard him speak, I know in my heart he was speaking truth. Yet there are some very important aspects missing from his work. The biggie.... Gaia is an extraordinarily evolved being. She is not exacting revenge!!! She is simply moving her energies to a higher harmony - she's moving to a place where ALL sentient life is respected. In actual fact, it's what humanity (at the higher level) has already asked for. At the superconscious level we are working as one with her. Our destinies are united.

When I look into the future, I see a planet with a very small human population indeed. Those that survive the changes to come, will have to be highly evolved beings too. In other words, they will have to have transcended the Five Gateways and become 5th Dimensional Beings. This is the fiery path of salvation for humanity. In the crucible of daily living, in no uncertain terms, the wheat will be separated from the chaff. Not in a judgmental way because we all have a ticket to join the new dawning. No one would be rejected, it is just that the vast majority are rejecting themselves.

So Gaia is working with us not against us. It doesn't serve humanity to be locked in a never-ending cycle of manipulation and control. When Humanity thinks it is harming Gaia, in fact it is the other way around. We are harming ourselves by lowering our energetic vibration through the continued mistreatment of our natural eco-systems. Many are building karma that could take lifetimes to dissolve. Thankfully, others are saying "enough is enough".

The era of Homo Sapiens is drawing to a close. That of Homo Divinicus is about to begin.

Bring it on!

James Lovelock

Synchronistically I watched this documentary on my computer last night, here is the link if anyone is interested.

What struck me was the way in which everything develops in perfect harmony and balance, James Lovelock gives a lovely example of Daisyworld, a hypothetical planet with white and black daisies. As the Daisyworld planet heats up, the black daisies absorb the heat and so begin to germinate, resulting in many black daisies. As the black daisies absorb more heat they help raise the temperature of the planet, as the temperature rises the white daisies begin to germinate and so more white daisies prosper. Since the white daisies reflect the heat they help cool down the Daisyworld planet and once again it returns to an ideal temperature for the black daisies. Thus Daisyworld planet and the life on it (in this case daisies) regulates itself so that both daisies can prosper in harmony. In the same way Gaia and life within her appears to balance and rebalance so that everything continues in perfect order or what Trin describes as the "natural equilibrium of the Universe".

I agree that what our interference has done is having and will continue to have dramatic effects...

The other thing that struck me about James Lovelock is the way in which he lives his life. He has a great ability to think outside the box, he isn't constrained by society or the expectations of others. Even when the rest of the scientific world rejected and even ridiculed his theories he wasn't detered and continued with what he believed in, he developed other ways to demonstrate his theories to the world. He worked from home, he didn't like working within institutions as he felt they limited people and science. He wasn't concerned about material gain rather about following his passion, joy and creativity. His connection to the natural world was also evident. Not only are his ideas inspiring, but also his way of being and living Smile

daisyworld

Hi Fiona

I loved the daisyworld analogy too. What a wonderfully simple metaphor for nature working in perfect harmony.

It makes you weep to realise just how beautifully simple life could and should be.
