Self-Realization & God-Realization

I've seen the terms self-realization and God-realization used in various contexts. Do they mean the same thing? Can you have one without the other?

Maybe I just shouldn't get hung up on words... Smiling

God realisation

Hi Lib,

Its a good question! To me, God realisation is normally a term applied to someone who is living in direct experience of unity consciousness - that consciousness that connects us all.

I see self realisation as slightly different although incorporating God realisation. Essentially I see ourselves as the supreme being - God. You could call it the 'self' and it seems to me that life is about ever deeper realisations of that - so in other words, when living permenantly in unity consciousness then we are self realising in every moment.

So where God realisation may have a threshold over which to cross - unity consciousness - self realisation never stops. Some texts speak of 'self realised' people but to me this is slightly mis leading because we are always self realising - there is always another finer aspect to know and to experience.

It seems to me that many such terms are banded about and different people have different ideas of what they mean. Cest la vie!

Best wishes

Chris
