Smileys

Smileys, or emoticons as they are sometimes known, are short sequences of punctuation characters which are used to convey a mood, for example happiness, in a text message. The Openhand website now supports a useful selection of smileys which may be used in forum posts, comments, or page content.

Below are the available smileys and the emoticons displayed when the text is rendered in your browser. For convenience, several alternate spellings of each smiley are permitted as shown.

Active Smileys

Smileys don't work in title fields, just in body text so keep them there. There also needs to be blank space either side of the smiley for it to be recognized, so if you have one at the end of a sentence, keep a space between it and the full stop.

Enjoy using them (in moderation please!) Smiling
