Author did have a plane crash in Sahara desert and since pilots are very good in calculation he knew that his chances for survival are practically zero, only miracle could save him. And as they say, death is the best teacher, it takes everything unimportant away from you. So, the miracle did happen and Little Prince did came to show us what is really important.
