The extreme weather we're witnessing around the world is likely caused by two dynamics: 1) solar plasma, releasing ionised particles into our magnetosphere, that ten cascade into the jetstreams; 2) Especially in North America, you've got the polar vortex now forging much further south.

This turbulence is something we'll just have to work to get used to.
