One brick at a time 👣

I have left my apartment in the Himalayas and come to Gokarna, the beach town in South India, with just my guitar, a tent, and very little money. The universe has provided me with a shack where I can camp with beautiful views of the ocean. It may sound like a beautiful, perfect scenario to the reader, and part of me wants to make it sound like that, but the truth is that the change has been quite internally triggering, left, right, and centre, with enough karma to work through throughout the day.
When I imagined the scenario before, I didn’t count the triggering part. Lol. But of course, the other side of the triggering is the emergent freedom of the soul. I’m being oriented by the question—what is my why? What is it that I’m not ready to give up my soul for? Does just following the soul put food in the mouth? Sustain my torus? Yes, I have learned the theory part, had quite some practicals over the years as well, but now the universe (or my own soul) has dialed up the challenge so that the theory becomes a knowing within.
Yes, the universe does create opportunities; I can see that. I saw an ad in an amazing nearby resort for a yoga instructor with good pay, food, and accommodation. I approached them, and they seem quite interested in taking me in, and the guy who runs it is also pretty chill. But it is not about the opportunity at all—I get that part.
Here is where I get to be authentic, 100 percent. I'm not a yoga teacher, I’m a facilitator. I can’t play by the rules; I will do it my way. I can blend in to a degree as I have quite a lot of diplomatic qualities, but not enough to sell the soul. It landed this morning that this is what I should convey—to him tomorrow, to me today, in this moment and every moment of every day. There is freedom in that, where I decide I’m not defined by the physicality of my existence.
I thought my mind was still — but with some real threat to the identity, it has risen again. I can see that it only wants to protect, but in doing so, it tries to control: over-questioning, projecting myself into the future. This is where the deepest learning is, and also the most basic — to live in the moment. To completely accept what is and let go of desires, even spiritual ones.
A part of me is thinking that it doesn’t have to be any other way than this — a part that can also feel gratitude for what is.
Yesterday, I felt some aloneness — being by myself and not really knowing anybody. I sat by the ocean and connected with her, and I realised I actually don’t need much. Life has provided me with so many inspiring reflections the last few days.
I stumbled upon a book yesterday by Will Smith, where he recollects his childhood experience of building a wall. When the work became tough, his father reminded him, “There is no wall; it’s just one brick at a time.” He’s really talking about the spiritual path — one layer at a time.
I met a guy yesterday who is doing an all-India bicycle ride without money, while vlogging at the same time. What inspires me is his passion and dedication — the sense of purpose and meaning. Someone who has decided they can live on very little, but not without a sense of purpose.
Today morning I'm feeling quite chill and expanded. This was about breaking the mould of my existence, to see where I break. I can see how easily the mind can create another set of maps to navigate safely. That safety can actually become a comfortable trap. I think sometimes it's good to take big leaps into the unknown, other times progressively innovate within the current circumstances — one brick at a time.

Hi Vimal,
I congratulate you on having the courage to take the steps you have - it sounds very much to me like someone truly following the soul - no soft compromises 🙏
Then you said this...

It landed this morning that this is what I should convey—to him tomorrow, to me today, in this moment and every moment of every day. There is freedom in that, where I decide I’m not defined by the physicality of my existence.
This sounds (to me) like the opportunity has arisen because you followed the soul. You are indeed a fine example of a Shift Facilitator.
Do be careful, though, about excessive purism - we do have to blend what we do into the matrix for it to find channels of expression. In other words, there has to be accessibility, too.
You are great a yoga - very skilled. And on the facilitator program, right at the beginning, you'll recall I shared the various models of offering facilitation - to offer some kind of therapy or practice as a route into facilitation. Yoga would be one of those.
So, as long as you spell this out, why should you not take the position if offered?
I feel to say - if it's offered, be careful not to look a gift horse in the mouth!
By the way, I'm thrilled for you that you're creating such opportunity - it happens when we dare to take a risk and follow the soul.
Much love and support

Hi Open,
As I was reading your feedback, the 100 percent in my writing got highlighted for no apparent reason :D Purity is is one the attachment I had to work through quite a bit.
But in this case thats not the actual reason. The place expects me to put in 3 hours of yoga session every single day with no exception. At that rate even your sweetest expression would become like 'work'. I have had lots of experiences of this. And no I'm not very skilled in yoga, not in the sense of guiding various postures. And I also had unpleasent experiences with authority and following fixed schedules in the past.
But even then, if they invite in the next few days, I would probably go to see what I can learn about myself from the experience.

How inner filters adjust, block or distort true flow ⁉️
In reply to When expression becomes work by Vimal

Hi Vimal,
Whatever happens here in your journey, surely we can say: That it's already becoming wonderfully rich and revealing 🙏
And to be clear, if I challenge you on anything, that doesn't mean I'm pointing in a particular direction - I am not. That is entirely up to you, in your own sovereign expression.
The point being, that whenever any of these situations present, where there's uncertainty about how to go forward in key life's choices (such as how you work to sustain yourself), then it's what gets uncovered that really counts - not the end outcome. I'm sure you agree.
So, allow me to point out what I feel, are some real gems that might be worth exploring in what you present about the situation...
- You said 'you'd be expected to put in 3hrs of yoga teaching every single day - and that this feels like work'. I'm virtually certain, that there are many people out there in the Openhand community (and millions of awakened people), who are in the more 'matrix' world, often working 9,10 or 11 hours a day (and even longer) just to make ends meet, who would absolutely chew your arm off for that possibility!!
To me, for example, here at Openhand, where I get up on average at 3am every single day to work, and complete around about 6pm, I would find what you're describing an absolute blissful vacation! In fact, can you please provide their phone number and contact details - maybe I'll go and live there and share Openhand from there (I'm only partially kidding!!). (I actually feel there probably are some people out there who would be seriously interested).
- You say: "I'm not very skilled at yoga." But isn't the true meaning of yoga divine union? It's certainly NOT just about postures. Yes, that's maybe what the employers think they want - someone just to guide postures. But aren't you pre-judging both them and the situation? What if you (humbly) shared your view on yoga, and what you might then have to offer, which is different from the run-of-the-mill, and much more intriguing and beneficial? Maybe they'd be excited by that - the point is, you don't know until you explore.
- You say you'd have to work every single day. What if you ask for a day off each week, and put in some extra hours on the other days?
To reiterate, I'm NOT suggesting you take the job (assuming it was offered). And to anyone else also reading, that is NOT the Openhand way. The Openhand way is to explore into a particular situation that presents, then to inquire - what distortions, blockages and judgments are shaping how I approach the situation? As you confront and strip off these layers, then the landscape (the quantum field) bends around the inquiry and reshapes according to it. Maybe you'd end up taking that particular job - or maybe the inquiry alone would shape a different possibility.
My sense here, Vimal is (that you could explore - if you felt to) how might you 'negotiate' with the world to have it respect your soul's wishes. But do be clear, that they are true soul wishes, and not just filters that are distorting and blocking.
With all love and respect

Expressing accurately

Hi Open, I find it supportive and encouraging that you continue to engage with me, and no, I don’t think you are overriding sovereignty here. You raise a couple of interesting points and I agree with all of it. But I think I could have been more accurate in how I express myself.
For example, when I mentioned 3 hours of work, it really depends on what kind of work to call it a vacation. I remember I was singing songs in a café in Goa a couple of years back. Just 3 nights a week, 3 hours a session, was overwhelming because the energy and the homework that’s needed to deliver that is massive — because you also have to innovate. Same with yoga — every day for a few weeks became too much for my body not too long ago. That’s partly because of how I was trying to fulfil a role, to play by the expectation, and thus pushed myself too far. I’m still carrying a neck sprain from going too far.
People come with many expectations of what they want from it. What if they don’t want divine union but a tight butt? I have seen people turning away when I introduce more meditation and less movement.
And in the face of that, to anchor in our truth — yes, it’s actually about divine union and not about any athletic performance — that’s courage and self-belief. It’s easier if you are working for yourself compared to working for somebody else.
You said,
But aren't you pre-judging both them and the situation?
This is massive. Just expecting other people to be a particular way can highly distort how we express in the world. I can see how judgments and doubt are distorting the flow. There is that thinking: maybe if I do more homework, get a TTC, then I will be ready! I think many people might feel the same way. It reminds me of Paramahamsa Yogananda, who went to the USA to deliver a speech without knowing a word of English but simply trusted; despite the fear, he began speaking fluently on stage because he was meant to!
I think it’s an opportunity for mastery — how not to compromise but also blend in. The times I have anchored in myself and found the flow through the yoga expression, many times going out on a limb, it has been beautiful not just for me but also for others involved.
And btw, the place is breathtaking and they are quite open to conducting workshops and retreats. Maybe Openhand could come here
Thankyou for your reflections.

Hi Vimal,
Hearing about your Yoga journey, I wanted to share a couple of my discoveries that mean a lot to me.
A couple decades ago I found this Yoga video that I used quite a bit. I've seen many yoga videos and this one resonates with me the most. I recently found it on YT and will start following again. I hope you check it out and find some new inspiration in it for your own practice:

Also, I found this book that focuses strongly on the chakras in the practice, and beyond. Really inspirational to me. If you can't find it I would be happy to lend it to you somehow...

Hi Open,
I wanted to give an update on this thread. I joined the place and have already offered a few Yoga and meditation sessions. It turns out you were right! (as always! 😬) Some of my own filters were indeed getting in the way, which I’ve worked through — and this conversation really helped. They’re quite open to the sessions unfolding in the way I feel called to guide them. I can also create workshops or programs and offer them separately. I’m brimming with excitement at all the possibilities. It feels like my deepest yearning is being met by the universe without even intending or efforting for it. There is so much for me to learn, innovate, and create.
These last few days, I’ve been bathing in unconditional love as I surrendered to the Infinite and merged with the light. And I made a resolve that I would never lose trust again, even when things get challenging. I can surrender even deeper now. It truly wants the best for each of us. I’ve been shedding buckets of tears every time I listen to this song...
How would we find such levels of trust and surrender if everything was provided on a plate?
With love

Stepping into our power 🎸🎶
Comment
Stepping into my power is embracing my uniqueness—and at times, its weirdness. It’s recognizing that I don’t need anything outside of what I already carry within. It’s not a passive acceptance but a willingness to let the flow of the soul guide me through life. In that space, we merge with the greater flow of the universe, and the smallness of the identity-self dissolves. What remains is trust, magic, and a childlike curiosity toward the infinite possibilities.
I recorded this video shortly after the facilitator conference, where I truly stepped into these feelings—especially on the final day, when we connected with Babaji. I hope some of that energy comes through in this video song, set against the backdrop of the Himalayan peaks and the gentle chirping of birds in the background.

Where "IMPOSSIBLE" becomes "I'M POSSIBLE" ✨
In reply to Podcast - Debunking success and failure with Rich & Vimal▶️ by Vimal

There is so much excitement to see the creative projects and the self-expression of some people here at Openhand (while others are still sleeping or hiding their soul gifts away). To me, it speaks about the fruit that a mature tree starts bringing, a testament to the years of growing higher and deeper, and patience. Each piece of fruit is a tiny miracle, a culmination of sunlight, rain, and the rich soil from which it draws its sustenance. The tree stands as a symbol of resilience and the quiet, persistent effort that goes into creating something beautiful and (Soul) nourishing. Its fruits are not just a reward for the tree, but a gift to the world around it, providing sustenance for creatures big and small, and a reminder of the cycles of life and growth.
I'm picking up the message (perhaps from the ether): IMPOSSIBLE becomes I'M POSSIBLE
This is another fantastic project. I don't know whose idea that was (and does it really matter?), but in my view it works very well. I suspect it's Vimal's creative spirit that takes off. Anyway, I feel joy for both of you, Richard & Vimal. It is a nicely presented video as well, like from someone well-experienced.
And yes, may it be many more?
Wishing you well with your creative endeavours, EVERYONE 🚀

Calling of the desert (new video)
Comment
I managed to put together this short video before I left the desert, Hunder. Since I wasn’t planning to make any video, I hadn’t carried any typical equipment, so I had to innovate—a stick as a tripod, camel fur as a wind shield for the lapel mic (as you can see 😆), and since there wasn’t any power, I took a few shots with my mobile camera on the last day. It took a whole day to edit and upload it through my phone. I think it came out well and conveyed what I wanted to say. Take a look, enjoy the energy of the desert.

Hi Vimal - it looks like you're having a very rich experience out there in such a beautiful landscape.
I am left wondering, however, what's the reason for you being there?
Is it to retreat and have some cool meditations in a stunning landscape?
Or, is it to have some deep inner revelations in solitude? (Which, to me, is really what the 'calling of the desert' is all about).
If it's the latter, why then are you recording, producing and uploading videos to share? Why are you using tech at all? Surely, that's a distraction from the purpose?
I find it curious.

Hi Open, Your curiosity isn't baseless because I had same inquiry.
Actually I wasn't using the tech at all. I only took the last 2 hours before leaving to record the video on my phone. Editing and uploading was done after reaching the main town. If the soul feels excited about something ( like making a video) who's denying it?
Surely you must have seen it wasn't about cool meditations ( it was bloody hot! 😆) in a stunning landscape but about deep revelations. And if I remember correctly, you also told to share when I can.
I agree a lot more can be gained from the desert experience. But we all learn in our own time.

The shiva within (vlog)
Comment
I wonder how did we get conditioned so much in this world to see "success" in terms of the outcome. What if we can see it in terms of the inner growth, the embodying of beingness, and the process itself? I think this is a great shift in freedom. This will also make us the odd one in the mass.
I was watching the Cricket World Cup finals yesterday evening and I saw how masses of people were oriented towards one or the other team winning or worried about losing. I saw how I was reacting similarly. The body-mind is deeply conditioned to see reality through this filter. But after my 'preferred" team won I wondered what was the great achievement? Is it the validation others (who are conditioned in the same way) give for this achievement?
Yet it makes absolute sense that we perform our best when we don't care a jot about the outcome but are deeply intimate with the game itself. I think this is the mastery of life. How to be passionate and committed yet not lose oneself in the outcome. To see life as an infinite game where every growth through challenge is a win and we can never lose in this game because we are not oriented anymore in the way the world perceives reality but with the truth.
I like to share this short video I made - The Shiva Within. I went to this high-energy place to camp and meditate. There was a big dent in my motivation when I saw how my tent was broken and the initial plan was not going to happen. Nevertheless, I found the will to surrender and go with what I had.

I had written this song during one of the Openhand online retreats. On the second day, we delved deep inside and touched the sacred ground of being. On the next day, Open asked us to bring a gift from the universe. I remember sitting on the balcony of a mudhouse in which I was staying at that time in a beautiful remote village in Himachal and looking at the kestrels hovering in the distance, and this song just came through me. I think it perfectly encapsulated the feeling I had the previous day during the session. I shared this with the group on that day. My friend recently came to visit me and generously offered to shoot this movie, and he did an excellent job. Use headphones for better clarity, as the audio is still a home recording.

Thank you Vimal for bringing us with you on your journey to such a magical, beautiful, peaceful place. My heart is pulled to it with longing, and the turbulance of my heart is calmed. I admire you for your courage and ability to flow and trust, and so opening yourselves to gifts of abundance from the universe. An important lesson. Hugely inspiring and gives me incentive to set out on my own adventures. Gratitude to you for this! Blessings, barb![]()

Dear Vimal and Saumya ,
May I humbly suggest you start a camping trip business called "Soulful Journeys" where you take people camping through these gorgeous areas. I would love to take my daughter (and old soul dog ) camping through this wilderness and would gladly pay for the experience. I know many others that would too .
( Just a flash of an idea. Please ignore if you find it pointless )
Thanks so much for that video ,it just brought so much soul into my morning .

Here's meditation music inspired by the deep Tibetan chants I hear at local monasteries. It was really fun and very engaging to learn to mix different instruments and sounds. I also got to see how learning happens intuitively in the flow rather than being overloaded with information.
